Background

UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to end poverty, reduce inequalities and exclusion, as well as protect the planet, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP China has been working in China over the past 40 years, partnering to advance various phases of Chinaโ€™s development. UNDP Chinaโ€™s actions and programmes for the period of 2021-2025 are defined in its Country Programme Document for China (CPD), prepared in cooperation with the Government of China and other partners. The CPD contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for China 2021-2025 and aligned to support the development priorities outlined in the Government of Chinaโ€™s 14th Five Year Plan.

The Communications, Innovation and Partnerships Team (CIP) of UNDP China promotes greater understanding and visibility of UNDPโ€™s work by utilizing various communications tools. Fully engaging with the media, social media and leveraging on a strong network of Public-Private Partnerships, the team leads the design, management, and implementation of UNDPโ€™s overall communications strategy, including design and roll out high-impact, multimedia campaigns; programme-oriented communications products; media relations and key events; localization of global content for Chinese audiences; and publications on critical development issues. On the innovation front, the team is facilitating and prototyping innovative solutions and experimenting with new ways of working to tackle complex development challenges outside the traditional development cycle.ย 

Duties and Responsibilities

The Innovation and Communications Assistant provides administrative and coordination support to the CIP Team to ensure teamโ€™s work is delivered with high quality, accuracy, and consistency.Under theย directย guidance and supervision of the Innovation and Communications Officer,ย the assistantย will work in close collaboration with the Operations Team ย and China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges, providing support to the design and development of innovation projects and initiatives.

Project Management and Support

Provide project management support to the team, including but not limited to,ย  Creating andย maintainingย projectsย informationย in UNDPโ€™s Quantum system; Facilitate the procurement process for the project implementation includingย , creating requisitions, raising receipts,ย coordinatingย payments Tracking, monitoring, and reporting on the use of project resources; Provide support for the process ofย project approval, implementation, general operations, and closure of projectsย under the UNDP policies and regulations; Generate reports and information on the routine implementation of projects; review, verify, and reconcile financial data and reports to ensure accuracy and conformity with UNDP financial and administrative rules and regulations; Provide supportย to theย partnership-building process, includingย background research,ย relevant document preparation.

Prove support to the implementation of innovation strategy

Provide support to the implementation of the Country Officeโ€™s innovation strategies and initiatives and assist in maintaining relations with innovation partners;ย  Provide support to event planning and execution including but not limited to innovation-themed conferences, workshops, etc.;ย  Work closely with the team of the UNDP SDG Innovation Labs andย facilitate the synergy among cooperation parties;ย  Assist in driving the communications effort for innovation-related initiatives and projects.

Support the implementation of CO communicationsstrategyย 

Provide effective support to the implementation of the Country Office communications strategy and support the communications initiatives including but not limited to events, campaigns, and training workshops;ย  Assist in quality assurance for the Chinese contents of outreach communications materials such as concept notes, press releases, Op-Eds, social media articles, etc.ย  provide support to the management of cross-team/agency communications process;ย  Ad hoc tasks requested by the Communication and Innovation Officer.

Provide support to Communications team in knowledge management and dissemination.

Collect knowledge products from programmes and projects, and archive them properly.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Secondary education (Completion of High School Education) is required. Or University degree (bachelor's degree)ย in Communication, Social Sciences, Political Sciences, International Relations,ย or related field will be given due consideration, ย but it is not a requirement

Experience:

Minimum 4 years (with Secondary Education) or 1 year (with Bachelorยดs degree) of relevant experience in innovation and communications.ย 

Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section

Experience in project management with desirably a focus on gender, innovation, youth, or advocacy for SDGs. Experience in social media campaign and offline event management as well as external communications, preferably with video editing and graphic design skills. Experience with public sector, preferably with international organizations.

Required Language(s):

Fluent in Chinese and English is required.ย
