Mission and objectivesUNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for people forced to flee their homes because of conflict and persecution. We lead international action to protect refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people. Our vision is a world where every person forced to flee can build a better future. Formally known as the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR was established by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1950 in the aftermath of the Second World War to help the millions of people who had lost their homes. Today, UNHCR works in 136 countries. We provide life-saving assistance, including shelter, food, water and medical care for people forced to flee conflict and persecution, many of whom have nobody left to turn to. We defend their right to reach safety and help them find a place to call home so they can rebuild their lives. Long term, we work with countries to improve and monitor refugee and asylum laws and policies, ensuring human rights are upheld. In everything we do UNHCR considers refugees and those forced to flee as partners, putting those most affected at the centre of planning and decision-making. Source: www.unhcr.org
ContextWithin the Global Infrastructure Section (GIS) of the Global Mobility and Infrastructure Service (GMIS) under the Division of Financial and Administrative Management (DFAM) operates the UNHCR Shop. The UNHCR Shop’s purpose is to procure, sell, and dispatch core visibility and promotional items to UNHCR staff and operations worldwide. It supports Public Outreach by providing items for events and helps ensure brand compliance across the full range of visibility items and merchandise. The overall aim of the UNHCR Shop is to support colleagues globally, mobilize additional financial support for UNHCR, and raise awareness and empathy for forcibly displaced people. UNHCR has launched the 'Hope Away From Home' campaign, which aims to foster global solidarity and advocate for the rights of people forced to flee their homes. As part of this initiative, the UNHCR Shop seeks a skilled graphic designer to adapt the campaign’s visuals onto various promotional products, including towels, thermoses, coloring pen set boxes, notebooks, and other stationery or merchandise. Since these designs will be used for physical production, the Online Volunteer will be expected to provide technical guidance throughout the production process, ensuring the designs can be appropriately adapted to different materials, formats, and printing methods.
Task DescriptionThe selected Online Volunteer will be responsible for developing a cohesive, visually appealing, and UNHCR brand-aligned design for a specific line of promotional items by adapting the visual elements of the 'Hope Away From Home' campaign. The product line includes: 1. Thermos bottle 2. Notebook 3. Tote bag 4. Bracelet 5. Towel 6. Coloring pencil set The Online Volunteer will ensure that all designs align with UNHCR’s branding guidelines, maintaining a professional, high-quality aesthetic. Also, they will provide technical guidance throughout the item production process, advising on best practices for design application, to ensure the best possible output. Expected output and deliverables: The Online Volunteer is expected to prepare at least 3 proposed design approaches for the entire product line in any easily viewable format. UNHCR might request minor modifications to the designs to better align with visual expectations. The final design format for all items (6) must be either .ai or .psd. Note: UNHCR will provide further details on the requirements and materials, such as the visual toolkit, fonts, photos, etc., upon commencement of the project. The Online Volunteer is expected to use their own creative suite and devices for designing, as UNHCR will not be able to provide any application or license for this purpose. The Online Volunteer acknowledges that the final design output is the property of UNHCR.
