5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesWHO in the Western Pacific Together with 37 Member States and areas, we fight infectious diseases like dengue and malaria, and noncommunicable diseases like diabetes and heart disease. Through immunization campaigns and initiatives such as First Embrace, we help mothers and children survive and thrive. We ensure the safety of our environment, our air, our water and our food โ€“ all of which impact our health every day. We prepare for and rapidly respond to disasters and emergencies, never losing sight of the fact that we are dealing with issues of life and death. With the stakes so high, we strive for excellence in working to bring better health and well-being to the nearly 1.9 billion people of the Western Pacific Region.

ContextThe Western Pacific Region is prone to outbreaks and hazards. When an outbreak occurs, the public needs to receive timely and accurate public health advice to protect themselves and their families. Effective risk communication depends not only on clear and accessible messaging, but also on the use of engaging and trustworthy visual materials tailored to at-risk populations. To support these efforts, the RCCE team is seeking graphic design support to develop high-quality risk communication products. Public health responses are increasingly challenged by infodemicsโ€”an overabundance of information, including rumours and misinformation, which can undermine trust and delay action. Visual tools and design assets are critical in this context: they help to clarify complex guidance, address public concerns, and proactively counter misinformation. As part of our broader infodemic management strategy, the materials produced will be used across digital platforms to amplify accurate information and support community understanding during emergencies. The communication materials developed through this assignment will align with risk assessments for priority threats and hazards in the Region and will be ready for rapid deployment when needed. The Online Volunteersโ€™ contributions through this task will support the World Health Organization contribute to the Sustainable Development Goal 3 โ€“ โ€œGood Health and Wellbeingโ€.

Task DescriptionWe are looking for one Online Volunteer who under the guidance of Technical Officer, Risk Communication and in close collaboration with the communications team, will provide graphic design support for RCCE materials, including but not limited to infodemic management-related content, ensuring visually compelling and effective communication tools tailored to target audiences. In particular, the Online Volunteer is asked to work on: 1. Visual identity design o Develop one branding visual set for the RCCE BRIDGE project 2. Templates for workshop and training illustrations o Design reusable templates for training/workshop live illustrations. Base the core graphic on key training themes and allow for real-time expansion into a visual mind map during sessions. These will be used as a thumbnail image for session announcements and recaps. 3. Monthly RCCE-IM report templates o Design 2 layouts for monthly RCCE-IM reports, one for specific health topics and general overviews to ensure visual clarity, data readability, and alignment with WHO templates. 4. A risk communication package on diarrhoeal disease The package will consist of 6 visual tiles. Each tile should reflect a different festival background, selected from the following: o Eid al-Adha o Diwali o Christmas / Year-end holidays / New Year celebrations The tiles should feature characters representing six cultural groups: o East Asian o Southeast Asian o Hindu o Mongolian o Melanesian o Polynesian An existing festival-themed package is available for reference. The Online Volunteer is expected to draw from and adapt the existing materials while ensuring design consistency, visual harmony, and cultural appropriateness across all tiles. The design/layout should follow our corporate design guidelines, which will be shared with the Online Volunteers in advance.
