The Role:
In order to address negative stereotyping, this project โShomotay Tarunnoโ aims to enable young people in all their diversities, including Girls and Young Women (GYW), to challenge gender stereotypes that limit and stop them from enjoying their full potential. Plan International and JAAGO Foundation will work together to amplify the rights, representation and resources of young people, with all their diversities including GYW from local to national level to combat harmful gender stereotypes.
The Gender Specialist will play a vital role in implementing the 'Shomotay Tarunno: Youth for Equality' project, supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bangladesh, to challenge and transform gender stereotypes in Bangladesh. Working with diverse stakeholders such as youth organizations, media outlets, and government institutions, relevant ministries, Academia, civil society. The Gender Specialist will contribute to create an inclusive and gender-transformative environment targeted stakeholders. The primary focus will be on empowering young people, girls and young women including universities/research institutes, to live a life free of violence, voice their opinions, and challenge prevailing gender norms.
What weโre looking for:
We need a self-motivated and energetic individual with Master's degree or equivalent in Women and Gender Studies, Social Science, or related field focus on gender issues with at least seven years of relevant experience at the national or international level in Gender mainstreaming and women and girlsโ empowerment, ideally within the education context. Experience designing, monitoring, and evaluating gender mainstreaming projects in development contexts and in collaborating with various stakeholders/networks/ ministries to implement gender transformative approach. Should have uunderstanding of basic techniques, strategies and channels to advance social justice campaigns targeting a range of key audiences with ability to deliver creative, innovative work, involving cross-team collaboration, within a tight deadline. Should have strong knowledge of human rights and gender justice and solid understanding of gender and inclusion and the ability to apply this knowledge to design and implement gender-transformative interventions. Knowledge of effective strategies for engaging and collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including youth-led organizations, media outlets, and government entities. S/he should have demonstrated ability to develop and implement gender transformative programs, primarily using gender mainstreaming tools across project cycles. Should have creative thinking and problem-solving skills and excellent organizational skills and ability to keep to strict deadlines and ability to manage and prioritize multiple demands and tasks. Commitment to promoting equality and challenging gender stereotypes with empathy and sensitivity in addressing the needs and interests of individuals in all their diversity. Should have very strong English and Bangla language communications skills โ written and verbal with ability to inspire and mobilize young people towards collective action.
