It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities, providing adequate shelter for all. The World Urban Forum Coordination Office is located within the External Relations Strategy Knowledge and Innovation Division (ERSKI) of UN-Habitat. One of the Divisionโs key mandates is to promote strategic alliances to support achieving adequate shelter for all and sustainable urbanization and human settlement development. The World Urban Forum (WUF) is UN-Habitatโs key stakeholder flagship platform. The World Urban Forum (WUF) is a non-legislative technical forum convened by the UN-Habitat biannually since 2002. The forum gathers a wide range of experts from every walk of life. Participants of the forum include but are not limited to national, regional, and local governments, non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations, professionals, research institutions, academia, the private sector, development finance institutions, foundations, media, United Nations organizations, and other international agencies. The WUF is recognized as the foremost global arena for interaction among policymakers, local government leaders, non-governmental organizations, and expert practitioners in sustainable urban development and human settlements. The WUF has been identified as a key platform to support the implementation of the New Urban Agenda adopted at the Habitat III conference. The WUF provides opportunities for stakeholder organizations to come together to share the latest innovative advances in sustainable urban development and projects showcasing the implementation of the NUA. Under the overall supervision of the Head of Production Unit, the consultant will conceptualize and design various aspects of the Urban Expo, WUF13 venue, including the WUF13 integrated spaces and floor plans. Assignments include: 1. Ensure that all work produced follows the highest sustainability and accessibility standards within the industry and the WUF13 Agreement of Logistical Arrangements, as well as with the WUF13 Sustainability and Accessibility strategy. 2. Identify visual and functional space requirements and consult on exhibit design solutions, including budgets and physical exhibition hall limitations. 3. Participate in workshops and missions with relevant internal and external stakeholders to identify the features required for various activities at the Urban Expo and the venue. 4. Work with the events management or exhibition company to translate approved designs into compelling visitor experiences by understanding, organizing, and integrating content through prototyping and modeling. 5. Created and proposed innovative, on-brand, highly stylized concepts for the WUF13 integrated spaces at the Expo. 6. Design all aspects of the exhibition and integrated spaces, including but not limited to installation mockups/spatial design, and visual presentation of digital, print, and audiovisual exhibition content. 7. Create visually arresting representations that speak to the UN-Habitat brand and the WUF13 theme (including but not limited to illustrator drawings, design briefs, elevations, redesigns, and technical drawings). 8. Work with the WUF13 lead and in-house designers to develop compelling branding for the integrated spaces, including stage design, lighting installations, etc. 9. Develop an on-site installation plan and support the Head of the Production Unit with the production and installation. Qualifications/special skillsAdvanced University degree in architecture, industrial design, interior design, graphic design, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of five years of responsible experience in exhibition/ambient design for international events and conferences is required. Demonstrated expertise in exhibition and space design, including knowledge of exhibition construction methods and materials, is required. Expertise in architecture, interior design and graphic design is desirable. Skill in 3D exhibition design, including proven capability in design conceptualization, development, structural detailing techniques, sustainable fabrication processes and materials, model making, safety, conservation, and accessibility, is required. Ability to present exhibit and graphic concepts, production procedures, cost analysis, and evaluation is required. Expert knowledge of applicable CAD, 3D, and graphic design software is desirable. Experience in data visualization, motion graphics, and information design is advantageous. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
