ย Context
Since the inception of IOM in 1951, Movement Operations have been and continue to be a fundamental pillar of the Organization's work. The organized movement of persons in need of international migration assistance is a primary mandate of the Organization and a cornerstone of IOM's operations. This mandate has resulted in the international transport of more than 15 million migrants and refugees worldwide. Movement Operations departments in various IOM missions, coordinated under the division of Resettlement and Movement Management (RMM) in the Department of Migration Pathways and Inclusions (DMPI) at IOM's Geneva Headquarters, are responsible for all aspects of travel for migrants and refugees under IOM's auspices, in accordance with the various framework agreements with resettlement and receiving Governments and partners across the spectrum of the Organization's programmes.ย
Under the overallย supervision of the Chief of Mission (COM) and theย direct supervision of the IOM Egypt Movement Operations Manager and in coordination with the Project Coordinator (Cultural Orientation Resettlement) based in Amman, Jordan (Hereafter Regional Coordinator), as secondary supervisor, the incumbent's responsibilities will include the following:
- Coordinate the provision of Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) to refugees bound to Australia, Canada, UK, France, Germany, and any other resettling country as requested;
- Supervise team of PDO staff undertaking PDO activities in an assigned area, such as training, scheduling and childcare support, including overseeing staff development processes such as hiring, providing training, assigning duties and given feedback to staff members on their performance on a regular basis to ensure high quality work and the accurate completion of PDO activities.
- In relation to PDO training, oversee training activities, prepare staff members to provide training for a range of resettlement countries and provide technical assistance and support as they undertake training activities.ย
- As needed, draft training lesson plans in accordance with PDO objectives, ensure that student-centered activities are featured in all PDO sessions, assist in the development of teaching materials, visual aids and bulletin boards supporting the curriculum, maintain inventories of instructional supplies and order required materials on regular basis.ย
- Verify thatย PDO child-friendly activities in Egypt are in line with programme standards and that child-friendly spaces are appropriate, adequate and well-maintained, training child-friendly activity space facilitators conduct basic educational activities designed for children.ย
- Follow-up and verify that provided interpretation services are in line with quality standards of PDO.ย
- In order to develop and maintain PDO training related skills, participate in and contribute to staff development trainings and engage in self-directed study for professional development, including reading resettlement updates, language tutorials, attending migrant training relevant workshops and seminars.ย
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of all programmes and SOPs, as well as the ability to remain professional, impartial and unbiased during all interactions with the beneficiaires, colleagues and external partners. Support the development and implementation of SOPs as needed.ย
- Produce regular reports on PDO activities, including programme narratives and statistical reports for respective resettlement countries and also maintain PDO statistics, in coordination with the Regional Coordinator.ย
- Oversee PDO scheduling activities for IOM Egypt, ensuring that all programmesโ beneficiaires are provided with the opportunity to attend PDO sessions. Train staff members engaged in scheduling activities on data tracking, data protection and monitoring.ย
- Supervise, guide and monitor the work of PDO trainers and ensure that staff is up to date with relevant content of resettlement countries.ย
- Hold regular staff meetings with PDO trainers and PDO admin staff;
- Perform staff performance evaluation for PDO trainers and PDO admin staff on a quarterly basis or as required by the organization;
- Submit budgetary inputs on PDO related matters and monitor and validate the financial performance of PDO programmes in Egypt, in consultation with the Movement Operations Manager and Regional Coordinator;
- Support the liaison with project managers in receiving countries on PDO Egypt related issues, in consultation with the Movement Operations Manager and Regional Coordinator;ย
- Assist in preparation and submitting monthly and quarterly regional programme narrative and statistical reports by providing relevant data on Egypt respective programmes.ย
- Perform other related duties as assigned. Education

- Good computer skills in MS Office applications, good internet skills.
- Excellent knowledge of word processing, and experience in using database.

For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required (oral and written).
