Mission and objectivesThe World Health Organization serves as the directing and coordinating authority for public health within the United Nations system. ContextThe Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMRO) is facing significant public health challenges, particularly concerning emerging infectious diseases such as Mpox (formerly known as Monkeypox). In response to the Mpox outbreak, the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean has prioritized strengthening surveillance, response mechanisms, and health information systems across member states. The integration of robust data management tools, such as DHIS2, is critical in enhancing real-time data collection, analysis, and reporting. This initiative aims to improve the readiness and responsiveness of health systems, enabling timely interventions to mitigate the spread of Mpox. This UNV assignment is part of EMRO Mpox response.

Task DescriptionWithin the delegated authority and under the supervision of Information Systems and Analytics Team Lead or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV EBS Analytics officer will: Under the guidance of the DHIS2 officer, the UNV will enhance Mpox surveillance integration within the health information framework through the following key activities: โ€ข DHIS2 Tools Development: Customizing DHIS2 tools and forms for Mpox to align with national and regional surveillance systems, facilitating comprehensive data collection. โ€ข Data Quality Standards: Establishing and maintaining rigorous data quality standards in the DHIS2 system to ensure accurate Mpox reporting. โ€ข Data Visualization: Creating regular visualizations and customized dashboards to track key indicators and monitor response progress. โ€ข Integration with Health Systems: Integrating DHIS2 with other health information systems for seamless data sharing and collaborative analysis. โ€ข Training and Support: Providing targeted training and technical assistance to focal points on Mpox surveillance forms, reporting, and analytics. โ€ข Knowledge Sharing: Facilitating collaboration among DHIS2 users to foster continuous improvement in data management. โ€ข Spatial Modeling: Developing spatial models to predict Mpox spread and assess future scenarios for proactive public health strategies. โ€ข GIS Tools Implementation: Implementing GIS-based tools for effective surveillance and outbreak response, enabling real-time mapping. โ€ข Thematic Mapping: Producing thematic maps for the Incident Management Support Team (IMST) in line with WHO GIS standards. โ€ข Tailored Training: Conducting country-specific training sessions to ensure effective use of mapping products and tools. โ€ข Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor. - Results/expected outputs: โ€ข As an active WHO team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to [WHO EMRO] and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: Results/Outputs can be modified as appropriate; should not entirely mirror the task description but serve as a basis for workplan and deliverables] โ€ข Customized DHIS2 Tools: Development and implementation of tailored DHIS2 tools and forms for Mpox surveillance, aligned with national and regional systems. โ€ข Established Data Quality Standards: Clear data quality standards and procedures integrated into the DHIS2 system, ensuring reliable and accurate reporting. โ€ข Real-Time Monitoring Dashboards: Creation of customized dashboards for key indicators, enabling effective tracking and visualization of Mpox response progress. โ€ข Trained Personnel and Collaborative Network: Comprehensive training for focal points and establishment of a collaborative network among DHIS2 users to promote best practices and knowledge sharing. โ€ข GIS Tools for Surveillance: Implementation of GIS-based tools that enable efficient mapping and analysis of Mpox cases. โ€ข Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment. โ€ข A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.
