Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Section, the incumbent will perform electro-mechanical functions in a wide range including carrying out technical and logistical operations. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Electrician will be responsible for the following duties: Planning and assessment: โข Plans, schedules and supervises implementation of engineering projects such as installation and maintenance of electrical, HVAC systems and operation power generation system/s. โข Assesses requirements for the installation of electrical, HVAC and power generation, and requirements for repairs and maintenance of engineering equipment. On the basis of the assessment, drafts technical or assessment reports; determines work requirements, and issues work orders and work assignments to assistants and technicians. โข Diagnoses problems and develops solutions for malfunctioning or defective engineering equipment or systems. Operations: โข Supervises and coordinates the electrical installation, servicing, maintenance and repair of engineering equipment, in compliance with recognized standards and regulations pertaining to safety and installation codes. โข Supervises work carried by national, international junior staff assigned to the team and contractors in accordance with set schedules. Provides inputs related to their performance. โข Inspects and reports on construction, installation and maintenance projects carried out either by contractors or tradesmen and staff under supervision. โข Applies and ensures adherence to safety programmes related to the safe operation of engineering equipment and power tools. Administration: โข Identifies resource requirements for his/her area of responsibility in connection with budget preparations. โข Assists in technical evaluation of bids and proposals for engineering projects and equipment. โข Secures equipment, materials, supplies and spare parts for supervised works. โข Reads and interprets specifications and technical drawings for construction, installations and upgrade of infrastructure. Prepares bills of quantities and costing for engineering projects. โข Supervises the maintenance of records relating to inventories, work orders and general correspondence. โข Performs UMOJA transactions related to equipment maintenance service orders, prepares technical status reports for write off. โข Reviews and approves work orders and assigns tasks to tradesmen and technicians being supervised. โข Verifies progress or completion of engineering projects and recommends to the Chief of Section for partial or final payments. โข Follows up on correction of defects in material or workmanship of contractorโs work during the warranty period of the contracts. โข Performs other duties as required. Work ExperienceAt least eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in technical, administrative and supervisory areas in the maintenance and operations of Electrical, generators and Air Conditioners is required. Knowledge of methodologies for project planning, execution and evaluation of engineering compliance standards is required. Experience in designing engineering projects with proven drafting skills for project documents is required. Experience in international operations in a post conflict environment is desirable. Experience managing performance-based service contracts, managing high dollar value complex contracts is desirable.
