Org. Setting and ReportingThe Trade and Market Intelligence (TMI) is part of the International Trade Centreโ€™s Division of Market Development (DMD). It has developed a range of tools for strategic and operational market research, focusing on products and markets of interest to developing countries and economies in transition, assessing sectoral and national trade performance and trade competitiveness. In parallel to the development and implementation of its market analysis tools, TMI delivers trainings and capacity building programmes on market analysis and research for effective export marketing and strategy development. Drawing on the data and analytical indicators in the tools together with additional desk and empirical research, TMI also conducts studies and analyses tailored to the needs of trade policy officials in national ministries and trade support institutions focusing on strategies for improving trade competitiveness and identifying opportunities for product and market diversification. The goal of this job function is to drive impact by managing projects, coordinating analysis of export potential and value chain development and other trade-related subjects, drafting reports and delivering related capacity building. ResponsibilitiesUnder the direct supervision of the Chief, Trade and Market Intelligence, and the general guidance of the Director, Division for Market Development, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: โ€ข Develops trade-related databases necessary for specified recurrent or ad hoc assignments. โ€ข Collects and analyzes trade-related data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. โ€ข Interprets, applies and, as necessary, adapts economic and econometric models to determine trends, patterns and relationships and to analyse the effects of trade policies and assumptions. โ€ข Drafts technical papers and analytical studies on selected global, regional, national or sector aspects of trade development. โ€ข Contributes to the preparation of material on trade and value chain development for the approval of regional, country or sector technical cooperation projects. โ€ข Monitors, backstops and assesses the implementation of technical cooperation programmes and projects. โ€ข Attends international, regional, and national meetings to collect and disseminate trade intelligence and to hold discussions with colleagues in other institutions. โ€ข Organizes and delivers training seminars on trade and market analysis and related topics for business support organizations and policymakers. โ€ข Prepares speeches and other inputs for presentations by senior staff. โ€ข Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work unitโ€™s services. โ€ข Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities, both internally and externally. Competenciesโ€ข PROFESSIONALISM: Knowledge of statistical software, such as Python or R. Knowledge of and ability to apply economic and econometric modelling. Knowledge of international trade, market access and competitiveness matters. Ability to apply economic theories and concepts in different sectors of economic and sustainable development. Ability to conduct independent research on economic topics, determine suitability, validity and accuracy of data provided by different sources. Shows skill in developing sources for data collection. Work ExperienceA minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area is required. Two years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable. Experience with statistical software packages, such as Python or R is desirable. Experience with economic modeling is desirable. Experience with report drafting is desirable. LanguagesFluency in English and knowledge of either French or Spanish is required.
