Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is seeking qualified and experienced drivers to join a temporary roster for its Garowe Area Office. Selected candidates will be called upon to cover the responsibilities of the permanent driver during periods of leave or absence. This is not a full-time position but a standby arrangement for short-term assignments based on operational needs.
The temporary driver will provide logistical and transportation support to NRC staff and visitors. Key responsibilities include:
Drive NRC staff and visitors on official duties as instructed by the supervisor or logistics officer.
Ensure the assigned NRC vehicle has all required documents and equipment (insurance, licenses, logbook, first aid kit, spare parts, and tools).
Collect, deliver, and circulate official mail, letters, contracts, and other documents.
Transport cargo and project materials to and from the airport, courier points, and field sites.
Keep the assigned NRC vehicle clean, fueled, and in proper operating condition.
Report immediately any accidents, incidents, or breakdowns to the supervisor.
Liaise with the logistics officer/coordinator for scheduled servicing and major repairs (organization arranges repairs).
Ensure vehicle records and approvals (logbook, waybills, waiver forms) are properly completed for every trip.
Drive the vehicle in compliance with traffic laws and NRC procedures.
Maintain a daily logbook of all trips undertaken.
Education & License
Secondary school certificate (or equivalent).Copy of valid driverโs license with Public Service Vehicle (PSV) authorization from Puntland.Experience
At least 3โ5 years of driving experience, preferably with NGOs, UN, or other international organizations.Experience driving in remote/field areas and in difficult road conditions.Knowledge & Skills
Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics (able to handle minor repairs and checks).Familiarity with local roads, routes, and traffic regulations.Ability to keep accurate logbooks and complete vehicle documents.Basic communication skills in Somali (mandatory) and some English (desirable).Ability to follow instructions, prioritize safety, and manage time effectively.Personal Qualities
