UNOPS in Lao PDR

Since 2011, UNOPS has been supporting the Lao Peopleโ€™s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) by providing procurement, sustainable infrastructure, and project management expertise to enhance development outcomes. UNOPS focuses on strengthening health systems, improving governance, and advancing sustainable and resilient infrastructure in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the National Socio-Economic Development Plan (2021-2025).

The UNOPS Lao PDR Office is part of the UNOPS South East Asia Multi-Country Office (EAPMCO), which provides oversight, support, and services to UNOPS operations in the country offices.

Job Specific

The Lao PDR Office is hiring for the position of Driver. Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Administration Associate, the Driver's main goal is to transport clients in a comfortable, safe and timely manner. He/she should have a valid driverโ€™s license and a clean driving record with no traffic violations. He/she also promotes a customer service-oriented approach consistent with UNOPS rules and regulations.

Functional Responsibilities

Reporting to the Administration Associate, the Driver is responsible for the following:
1. Safe, timely and comfortable transportation duties

Drives office vehicles for the transportation of authorized personnel to and from official work locations as may be required. Delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items; Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc., Performs minor repairs and arranges for other repairs and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean; Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accident; Abides by the countryโ€™s traffic rules Abides by UN rules and ethics concerning safe driving and security procedures Abides by the UNOPS, UNDSS rules and regulations especially when travelling to outpost locations. Further adhere to the Speed limits etc as stipulated by the Lao Traffic authority Ensures timely submission to and pick up of letters from government/international organizations. Performs other duties as required.
2. Monitoring and Progress Controls
Keeps the vehicle clean and in good condition Maintains travel log sheets for official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes greasing, etc.;as per UNOPS Rules.

Final Product

The Driver will be expected to drive personnel safely and fully adhere to the rules and regulations of UNOPS, UNDSS and other statutory regulations in executing their day to day activities. The Driver will also be expected to maintain all the record books / log books and keep their vehicles in a good condition. Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education

Minimum secondary education qualification is required. Training/certification in a basic vehicle maintenance and repair course is an asset. Valid Driving License is mandatory. High School diploma with 50% reduced years of required experience may be considered for qualified female applicants.

Work Experience

Minimum of two years of regular driving experience preferably in an international organization is required Safe driving record; Knowledge of local driving rules and regulations; and Skills in minor vehicle repairs.


Language

Intermediate working knowledge of English is required. The incumbent should be able to understand and produce simple, organized texts about familiar topics and manage most situations on a trip to places where English is used. Fluency in Lao language is mandatory.
