Result of ServiceThe United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD) is a regional arm of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) and assists countries in the Asia-Pacific region to achieve their peace, security, and disarmament goals, through provision of substantive support; coordination of activities at the sub-regional, regional and international levels; and information sharing on global and regional developments. Mandated by UN General Assembly resolution A/42/39D (30 November 1987) to provide, on request, support for Member State initiatives and to coordinate regional disarmament activities, UNRCPD works closely with regional and sub-regional organizations, other UN entities, and civil society. Its core focus spans capacity-building and technical assistance, dialogue fora, and outreach and advocacy. Within this mandate, UNRCPD advances inclusive, intersectional approaches to disarmament in support of the UN Secretary-Generalโs Disarmament Agenda, Our Common Agenda, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and UNODAโs Youth4Disarmament Initiative, aligning efforts with UNGA resolutions 74/64 and 76/45 and the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agenda to promote meaningful youth engagement across non-proliferation and arms control. Work LocationKathmandu, Nepal Expected duration3 Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesWith the supervision of the Associate Programme Management, the Disarmament Programmes Coordinator will perform the following tasks: A. Youth Programme Coordination (50%) โข Coordinate UNRCPDโs youth outreach and engagement initiatives across AsiaโPacific, including partnerships with youth networks and relevant stakeholders. โข Capacity building: co-develop training curricula; organize and deliver trainings/webinars in cooperation with UNODA focal points. โข Events & outreach: plan and coordinate online workshops, webinars and seminars; manage invitations, speakers, briefing packs, logistics and post-event follow-ups. โข Database & mapping: design, build, and maintain a living database/mapping of youth, young leaders, and youth organizations working on disarmament/non-proliferation/arms control in AsiaโPacific within UNRCPDโs mandate. โข Youth initiatives (general): Support in disseminating calls/announcements for youth programmes and opportunities. B. WMD Programme Coordination (20%) โข Research and Analytical Outputs: Prepare background papers, policy briefs, and analytical summaries on issues related to nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons disarmament and non-proliferation, including developments in relevant multilateral fora (e.g., BWC, CWC, NPT, CTBT). โข Event Coordination Support: Assist in the organization and delivery of meetings, workshops, and regional consultations under the WMD portfolio โ including drafting concept notes, agendas, participant lists, and post-event reports. โข Drafting and Reporting: Contribute to the preparation of mission reports, talking points, speeches, and communication materials for senior UN officials and project partners. โข Data and Knowledge Management: Maintain databases of regional contacts, activities, and documents related to WMD disarmament, and support monitoring and evaluation of related projects. โข Partnership and Communication Support: Liaise with Member States, regional organizations, and experts to gather inputs, track relevant initiatives, and contribute to donor reporting and outreach products. C. Research, Reporting, Scoping & Communications (15%) โข Draft/compile briefing notes, talking points, backgrounders, graphs, correspondence, and inputs for narrative/donor/mission/after-action reports. โข Internal Scoping/Mapping Document (5โ10 pages): lead the scoping/mapping of youth initiatives on disarmament in the region to guide UNRCPDโs strategy on youth and disarmament (and inform other UNRCPD pillars/workstreams where relevant). The document will be concise and user-friendly, evidence-informed, and based on feasible consultations; internal use only. โข Produce/update public information materials (web items, posts, short features) to disseminate outcomes of youth initiatives; support basic analytics and lessons learned. D. Partnerships & Networks (10%) โข Maintain working-level contacts with project focal points across the UN system, youth organizations, academia and CSOs. โข Mobilize and nurture youth networks for advocacy and disarmament campaigns. E. Office Support & Additional Duties (5%) โข Support mailing list management. โข Contribute to routine public information tasks and internal coordination. โข Perform other duties as requested by the Director and Deputy Director. Qualifications/special skillsAdvanced university degree (Masterโs) in political or social sciences, international development, peace and conflict studies, or a related field. At least two years of relevant work experience in youth engagement, programme coordination, and/ or disarmament/non-proliferation/arms control. Proven experience in virtual event coordination and stakeholder liaison. Strong writing/editing for briefs and reports; familiarity with digital outreach and contact-list management. Ability to work inclusively with youth constituencies and diverse partners across cultures. Familiarity with Asia and the Pacific region is preferred. LanguagesComplete fluency in English, oral and in writing is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
