5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesUNICEF work in Egypt is focused on promoting sustainable development with multidimensional equity for children, embodying the fair chance for every child principle. In line with national priorities, UNICEF work in Egypt focuses on Early Childhood Development bridging the first 1000 days through the first years of formal education, as a key means by which multiple threats to children may be addressed through cross-sectoral linkages. The expected results of UNICEF’s work in Egypt will contribute to national efforts and priorities and the 2030 National Sustainable Development Strategy; as well as the United Nations Partnership for Development Framework (UNPDF 2018-2022). UNICEF’s programme in Egypt contributes to strengthen the knowledge base for more child-sensitive social protection, and improve three fundamental elements of the early childhood years (health, nutrition and development). UNICEF’s work on learning and protection covers all children of all ages, focusing on the most vulnerable children, children with disabilities and adolescent girls.

ContextIn 2025, the UNICEF Egypt Country Office undertook a mid-term review of its country programme through a Strategic Moment of Reflection (SMR) exercise. This process resulted in reports from 6 issue based working groups, an SMR report documenting the process, and a Strategic Intent Memo highlighting key recommendations for prioritized programmatic shifts and areas of renewed focus. The office would like to prepare this set of documents for external sharing. Editing and formatting of the documents is required to develop a package that ensures consistency in language, use of acronyms, layout, and overall formatting, thereby strengthening coherence and readability across all documents. To achieve this goal, we are seeking the assistance of a dedicated online volunteer who possesses expertise in editorial work and preferably a background in development and experience with UN agencies. Their role will involve collaborating with us to create and finalize this package.

The selected Online Volunteer will support UNICEF Egypt by editing and aligning the format of the SMR package. The assignment will involve: 1. Editing documents to ensure clarity, coherence, and alignment with UNICEF style and communication standards. 2. Harmonizing the use of terminology, acronyms, and language across all documents. 3. Aligning document layout and formatting to ensure a professional and consistent presentation of the package. 4. The Online Volunteer will work closely with the UNICEF Egypt Planning and Monitoring team to finalize the package.
