Project Context and Scope
Private Sector Engagement Lead for Nigeria will enhance protection of migrantsโ€™ rights; generate innovative technical partnerships that capitalize upon business expertise and capabilities and grow flexible funding that can support programme implementation and impact globally and advance implementation of the Global Compact for Migration. S/he will be responsible for leading private sector engagement in Nigeria and support private sector engagement opportunities in West Africa, and the continent. IOM works with private sector actors on a broad range of IOM activities, including humanitarian assistance, health, labour migration and counter-trafficking. IOMโ€™s interaction with the private sector is multifaceted; the Organization has received technological, financial, human resources and other support from the private sector to save and improve the lives of those that are most affected by conflicts or natural disasters, or those suffering from lack of opportunity. In addition, IOM partners with companies and foundations to help enhance its operational and strategic performance as well as to gather data and advocate regarding migration issues.

  • Lead on the implementation and the holistic roll-out of IOM Nigeria Private Sector Strategy with targeted outreach and stewardship to private sector stakeholders in Nigeria.
  • Lead on IOM Nigeria partnership building for key PPP events, including identifying, liaising and managing stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement an outreach and engagement plan for private sector in Nigeria in alignment with IOM Global and Country Strategy, and Nigeria UNSDCF.
  • Develop and curate targeted liaison with key private sector actors, identifying their complementarity to IOM Nigeria programming.
  • Develop and maintaining mapping of new private sector prospects and identify existing partnerships and engagement opportunities for scale-up in Nigeria, in alignment with IOM Nigeria resource mobilisation objectives and strategic goals
  • Outline and articulate IOM modus operandi options with private sector actors, analysing and actioning on opportunities with small- and large-scale private actors for either in-kind contributions, formal partnerships, advocacy opportunities and visibility promotion.
  • In coordination with thematic teams, lead activity to present calls to action for IOMโ€™s key advocacy messages to the business community.
  • Identify key private sector institutions with which to collaborate across IOM institutional priorities (Climate change and Regular Pathways) and key thematic areas of engagement (youth employment) in Nigeria and West Africa. Enhance the stewardship of private sector stakeholders in Nigeria in coordination with HQ.
  • In liaison with IOM Nigeria Policy, Governance, Liaison and Support (PGLS), collaborate to ensure all due diligence processes are abided as well as legal components.
  • In liaison with IOM Nigeria Policy, Governance, Liaison and Support (PGLS) develop a resource bank of implementation and partnership modalities with private sector actors, analysing private partnersโ€™ Cooperate Social Responsibility (CRS) goals and engagement strategies.
  • In coordination with relevant organizational units and programmes, develop and implement Initiatives (including project development) that deliver IOM thematic expertise.
  • In coordination with relevant organizational units and programmes, develop and implement Initiatives to the business community in Nigeria through tools, training, and guidance (for example on due diligence, access to remedy, employer pays principle, migrant voice/empowerment, inclusive and representative policies etc.).
  • In coordination with thematic teams, build, document and share best practices throughout PSP by thematic/priority area to further inform impact.
  • Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and monitor and report progresses made against KPIs for partner pipeline in Nigeria.
  • Work with the PSP as appropriate, to compile and draft reports to private sector partners.
  • Support private sector engagement efforts in Africa and West Africa by liaising with private sector focal points in Dakar enhance regional private sector engagement and support coordination with HQ.
  • Supervises and administers subordinated staff members; plans and approves absences of staff; monitors, analyses and evaluates the staff/team performances; provides guidance and training to the staff members. ย ย

    • Conduct targeted outreach initiatives and engagements with private sector stakeholders in Nigeria to align with IOM Nigeriaโ€™s strategic priorities.
    • Establish new partnerships or collaborative agreements with private sector stakeholders across priority areas, enhancing support for IOM Nigeria's objectives.
    • Maintain and update a comprehensive mapping database of private sector prospects, identifying opportunities for partnership and engagement.
    • Develop and share best practice guides, training sessions, or informational resources with private sector stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and support IOM objectives Education
      • Advanced degree with at least Seven years in private sector partnership and income building with proven success in mobilizing financial resources from corporations and philanthropicย foundations;
      • Excellent understanding of private sector priorities and gained experience in developing partnerships and fundraising with the privateย sector;
      • Experienceย inย handlingย Corporateย Socialย Responsibilityย programsย andย corporateย recognition programs;
      • Significant experience in exploring new private sector opportunities and providing inputs to design and develop solutions with prospective partners for income andย impact; Experience
        • Experienceย buildingย long-termย partnerย relationshipsย andย understandingย ofย theย valueย ofย expanding relationships across geographies and comfortable engaging with multiple sectors;ย and,
        • Experiencedย inย workingย cross-functionallyย andย obtainingย relevantย contentย andย informationย from different units to build innovative partnerships with privateย sector.
        • Experienced fundraiser with an in-depth understanding of private sector partnerships, philanthropy and UN organizations; Skills
          • Strong influencing skills and confidence to engage with high-level stakeholders;
          • Proven and successful multi-year track record in private sector partnerships and fundraising with strong ability to meet fundraising targets and to negotiate and secure high value partnerships with corporates and foundations;
          • Strong ability to reconcile the needs of the Organization with those of the partner;
          • Ability to write, draft, and edit, reports, acknowledgements, briefings, and donor correspondence when letters, proposals, grants, appeals and ability to explain complex issues to external donors and present the Organization and diverse operations in an appealing and concise manner; and,
