Consultant (National) with Maternal and Child Nutrition under the Nutrition Research Division (Adv#41/2025) icddr,b is a Bangladesh-based international health research institute that strives to solve key public health problems through high-quality scientific research and innovation. icddr,b as a value-based organization, encourages women and people with disabilities. icddr,b invites applications from suitable candidates for consultancy with the One Nutrition Coverage Survey (ONCS), under the Nutrition Research Division.


Assignment/Activity: Under the guidance of the supervisor, the consultant will play a key role in supporting the Nutritional Coverage Survey under the Nutrition Research Division at icddr,b. The consultant's primary responsibility will be to assist in mapping, geo-referencing, and digitizing the survey data to ensure comprehensive and accurate coverage of nutritional indicators across the target areas. The consultant will work to ensure that data collection is carried out within the designated enumeration area, following GPS guidance, and preventing data collection outside the designated boundaries. Additionally, the consultant will ensure that the collected data is appropriately geo-referenced, enabling spatial analysis to inform nutrition programs and policy decisions.

Location: Dhaka with extensive field site visits.

Expected start date of assignment: 20 April 2025.

Duration: 20 days

Scope of Work:

The purpose of this consultancy is to assist in a large-scale survey that seeks to assess the nutritional coverage in specific geographic regions. The data gathered will be used to analyze the effectiveness of nutrition programs and interventions. The consultant will contribute to the technical aspects of mapping and geo-referencing data collected during the survey, which will support decision-making in public health and nutrition planning.

Objective

To assist in the design and implementation of the mapping and geospatial components of the Nutritional Coverage Survey. To ensure the accurate geo-referencing of survey data, enabling effective spatial analysis of nutritional coverage. To create high-quality shapefiles and digitize map data from the survey areas for further analysis.

Specific Responsibilities:

Collaborating with the survey team to plan and define the mapping and geo-referencing protocols for the Nutritional Coverage Survey. Assisting in the collection of survey data, ensuring all mapping and geo-referencing tasks are completed accurately. Using GIS software to create and manage shapefiles, ensuring all survey locations and data points are georeferenced. Digitizing maps and survey data into appropriate formats for further analysis. Reviewing collected data for accuracy, completeness, and spatial integrity. Preparing periodic reports detailing progress and providing feedback to the research team. Providing technical support on GIS-related issues during the survey process.

Expected deliverables:

Fully geo-referenced maps and shapefiles based on survey data. Digitized survey data in GIS-compatible formats. Periodic reports detailing progress and any challenges faced. Final report summarizing the mapping and geo-referencing contributions to the Nutritional Coverage Survey.

Required qualifications and experience:

Masters in Geography/ Geography & Environmental Studies/ Urban Management & Development in a Nationally/internationally accredited university with a good academic record, with training and expertise in GIS, Remote Sensing, and Spatial Analysis At least 5 years of experience in GIS mapping, shapefile development, digitizing maps, georeferencing, GPS guidance, boundary creation, and tool development in KOBO for using offline maps.
