Work LocationHome-based Expected duration15 December - 31 December 2025 Duties and ResponsibilitiesIn collaboration with Wuhan University and the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH), the UN-SPIDER Beijing Office is developing an online self-paced course titled โEarth Observation for Sustainable Development: Harnessing the Power of Chinese Satellitesโ. The course will be hosted on the UNU Learning Center platform (lc.unu.edu) and must follow UNU/UNOOSA visual identity, accessibility and e-learning design standards. Under the supervision of the Head, UN-SPIDER Beijing Office, and in coordination with UNU-INWEH/UNU LC focal points and the Graphic Designer, the consultant will: 1.Technical and platform requirements - Review UNU Learning Center (lc.unu.edu) technical specifications, content standards, and accessibility requirements. Agree with UNOOSA/UN-SPIDER and partners on: Course structure in the LMS (modules, units, pages); Supported file formats for videos, quizzes, documents and graphics. 2.Multimedia preparation - Using the scripts and visual assets provided: Prepare layout-ready video packages (e.g. intro/outro frames, slide sequences, on-screen prompts). Coordinate with recording teams (if applicable) regarding graphic elements and format. - Design simple interactive elements where supported by the platform (e.g. styled quizzes, embedded resources, navigation prompts). 3.Quiz and activity integration - Convert and format quizzes/MCQs into the lc.unu.edu-compatible structure: Create question banks, feedback messages, and grading settings as per guidance; Link quizzes to corresponding modules/lessons. - Format optional mini-project / case study assignment instructions for online delivery. 4.Course setup and uploading - Upload and organize all course components on lc.unu.edu (or designated LMS), including: Module/lesson pages, descriptions and learning objectives; Slide PDFs/links, readings, datasets, and external resources; Embedded or linked videos; Quizzes and activities. - Ensure: Logical navigation and progression; Consistent look-and-feel with the Visual Design Leadโs templates; Mobile-responsive layouts where supported. 5.Testing, quality assurance and documentation - Conduct end-to-end testing of the course as a learner: Check links, media playback, quiz functionality, completion tracking (if applicable). - Fix formatting issues, broken links, or inconsistencies. - Prepare a brief technical handover note: Course structure and settings; Instructions for updating content; Any dependencies or recommended improvements. 6.Collaboration and iteration - Coordinate closely with the Graphic Designer and content consultant to ensure coherence. - Implement adjustments based on feedback from UNOOSA/UN-SPIDER and UNU LC administrators. Qualifications/special skillsAn advanced university degree (Masterโs degree or equivalent) in remote sensing, geoinformation science, geography, environmental science, disaster risk management, instructional design, or a related field is required. A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. At least two (2) years of proven experience in designing slide decks, infographics and visual templates is required. Excellent skills in Adobe Creative Cloud and/or equivalent tools; ability to deliver accessible, web-optimized assets is required. Demonstrated experience working with international organizations, UN system experience is desirable. Familiarity with geospatial / EO / technical content is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
