Qualifications

Purpose of consultancyย 

The consultant will play a pivotal role in supporting the initial launch and operationalization of the C&H investments, ensuring alignment with Unitaid's strategic objectives. With a blend of analytical expertise, climate-specific skills, and a solutions-oriented approach, the consultant will provide both technical input and strategic guidance. This will enable Unitaid to shape its initial portfolio of climate-smart health products, positioning the organization to deliver impactful, scalable solutions that address the challenges at the intersection of climate change and global health.

Background ย 


Unitaid is focused on driving equitable access to climate-smart health products through its 2023-2027 strategy. As part of this strategic direction, the organization aims to minimize the climate footprint of health products across their full lifecycle, from production to disposal, while simultaneously strengthening the resilience of global supply chains. In alignment with Unitaid's 2025 priorities, the organization is looking to operationalize its Climate & Health investment portfolio, including the development of key investment cases to be presented to funding organizations and to contribute to the organizationโ€™s resource mobilization efforts.

Deliverables

The consultant is expected to complete the following deliverables:ย 

Extensive background in environmental sustainability, with progressively increasing responsibilities in leading large-scale sustainability programs and initiatives.ย  Experience in mitigation and decarbonization projects.ย  Proven experience in designing, leading, and delivering advanced analyses to support investment decisions, business and investment case development.ย  Experience in demonstrating an understanding of climate and health challenges related to Unitaidโ€™s work. Relevant experience at the intersection of climate and health.

Desirable:

Experience working with products within Unitaid's portfolio or relevant global health and product organizations, industries, or supply chains. Proven experience in leading decarbonization projects, providing technical support to stakeholders, and managing environmental risk assessments or climate adaptation initiatives, particularly in relation to global and regional supply chains and healthcare products.ย 

Skills/Knowledge:ย 

Deep understanding of Unitaidโ€™s mission, portfolio, and relevant regulations.ย  Strong knowledge of global environmental sustainability, key frameworks, and best practices.ย  Understanding of health product markets and sustainability challenges, particularly in Low and Middle-Income Countries, and insights into global supply chains.ย  Skilled in analyzing product investments and markets with a focus on sustainability.ย  Ability to interpret technical studies, life cycle assessments, and ESG standards.ย  Excellent collaboration and influencing skills to drive results in dynamic teams.ย  Sound judgment and a strong curiosity about climate issues and continuous learning.ย  Proficient in writing technical reports for senior audiences.ย
