Clean Air Catalyst (CAC)

Clean Air Catalyst (CAC) is a global initiative that seeks to identify, build awareness of, and eliminate the root causes of air pollution that damages climate, human, and ecosystem health. The program has three main areas of work: (i) engagement with city stakeholders to use participatory science to diagnose and develop targeted, cost-effective clean air solutions to protect human health and climate, (ii) working with the science community to convert innovative methods into tools and products that communities and policymakers can use to better manage their impact on the atmosphere, and (iii) working with national governments and business networks to design and implement broader regional-to-global air quality governance. The team is global, with senior experts distributed across WRIโ€™s network of international offices. The program will work in three pilot regions with WRI international offices and local partners to test and refine a three-part data to action methodology for improving air quality and delivering climate co-benefits. Job Highlight

The Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) Research Analyst will be responsible to integrate gender and social equity into air quality solutions for Jakarta's marginalized communities. This role will support the coalition-building efforts with government agencies, NGOs, community groups, and private sector stakeholders, fostering inclusive dialogues to address air pollution challenges. The analyst will conduct and oversee field data collection, its impacts on marginalized urban poor communities, and potential solutions, ensuring the GESI principles are included in Jakartaโ€™s air quality management strategies. A key focus of the work will be elevating the findings and results from the Gender Learning Circle to ensure the voices of marginalized groups, especially the urban poor are reflected in the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) strategy. Additionally, the analyst will assist on establishing safeguards to protect these communities during LEZ planning.

This position will be based in Jakarta with office-flex working arrangements and travel requirements as needed. Reporting directly to the Social Equity Analyst, the position holder is expected to working closely with interdisciplinary teams across the science, health, and solutions workstreams, this position will also assist in public outreach and advocacy, ensuring that gender and social equity remain central to policy recommendations and community engagement strategies.

What You Will Do

Stakeholder Engagement and Advocacy Works (40%)

  • Assist coalition-building efforts among government agencies, NGOs, private sector partners, universities, and other key stakeholders to support the implementation of inclusive clean air solutions in Jakarta. Work closely with the solutions team to advocate for safeguards in the LEZ to protect marginalized communities, ensuring that GEDSI concerns are integral to decision-making processes.
  • Collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including community groups, non-profit organizations, civil society organizations, government agencies, and industry representatives. Facilitate meetings, workshops, and consultations, in coordination with the solutions team, to gather input and integrate varied perspectives are considered into decision-making processes on air quality in Jakarta.
  • Identify and engage potential clean air stakeholders, which can be individuals, researchers, or NGOs at the grassroots level, with concerns on gender, social equity, and health intersection issues to be involved in future air quality initiatives.
  • Work closely with WRI Indonesiaโ€™s Communication teams and partners in delivering public outreach, education, and engagement activities
