Position Description
The Community Engagement Specialist will be a member of the project team and work closely with Ghana Health Service (GHS)/Health Promotion Division (HPD), District Health Management Teams (DHMTs), Community Health Management Committees (CHMCs), local non-governmental organizations, community organizations, USAID, and others to accelerate the uptake and performance of key health behaviors. Priority areas of focus include malaria prevention and treatment; maternal newborn and child health (MNCH); nutrition; water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH); family planning (FP)/reproductive health (RH), and public health emergencies (PHE), both nationally and in targeted districts in the six regions of focus.
The Community Engagement Specialist will work under the oversight of the Community Engagement Advisor to provide specialized technical assistance to the GHS-HPD, local civil society, and partner organizations to review, plan, manage implementation, and monitor community engagement interventions.
Roles and Responsibilities
โข Provides technical assistance in the development and implementation of community engagement and mobilization strategies to facilitate measurable behavior change in MNCH, malaria, FP/RH nutrition, WASH, and PHE.
โข Ensure gender, youth, and social inclusion mainstreaming in all phases from formative research, through design, media and materials production, community mobilization and evaluation.
โข Reviews deliverables of consortium partners in line with contracts and grant agreements, ensuring activities are conducted in a timely and efficient manner and incompliance with FHI 360 contractual agreements.
โข Contributes to and develops detailed strategy write-ups, workplans, field reports, quarterly/annual reports, and any other reporting requirements.
โข Liaises with and manages consortium partners involved in community mobilization and engagement activities.
โข Contribute to and support the capacity strengthening of local partner organizations and GHS-HPD at regional and district levels through the development and implementation of capacity assessments, mentoring, training, and other capacity strengthening activities.
โข Ensures regular data collection and reporting of community-level activities for project accountability and tracking of progress.
Qualifications and Experience
โข A bachelorโs degree in public health, Communications, Community Development, or related field
โข S/he must have 4-8 years of experience in implementing and managing large-scale international health/development programs, ideally within Ghana.
โข Prior experience in community engagement and mobilization models and strategies and their practical application to malaria, MNCH, FP/RH, nutrition, WASH, PHE, as well as gender, disability, and youth inclusion.
โข Knowledge of evidence-based, innovative, and practical solutions to community mobilization in Ghana, experience working with district and community health structures in Ghana is preferred.
โข Experience developing and implementing community engagement programs in Ghana, with a health focus, with demonstrated scope and impact at scale.
โข Understanding of best practices in formative research, pretesting, and monitoring and evaluation methodologies for effective SBC and community mobilization interventions.
โข Demonstrated strong technical (health, gender, disability inclusion, youth, SBC), programming, leadership, organizational, and management skills.
โข Ability to manage tasks in a timely and efficient manner with minimal oversight.
โข Demonstrated interpersonal communication and negotiation skills, as evidenced by prior work engaging communities, civic groups, churches/mosques, community groups, partners, donors, and NGOs to meet shared objectives.
โข Ability to set priorities while multi-tasking and meet deadlines.
โข Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
โข Language requirements: excelled written/oral English communication skills and one or more local languages.
