Work LocationBishkek city, Kyrgyzstan Full time, in-person Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground This is an unpaid internship opportunity at the United Nations Resident Coordinatorโ€™s Office (RCO) in Kyrgyzstan. The RCO provides strategic coordination and support to the UN Country Team (UNCT) to ensure a coherent, effective, and impactful UN presence. The RCO leads on communications, advocacy, partnerships, and reporting, ensuring alignment with the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and the UNโ€™s global priorities. The Communications Intern will support the RCOโ€™s communications and advocacy efforts, with opportunities to gain practical experience in multimedia content creation, media monitoring, and visibility of UN activities in Kyrgyzstan. โ€ข Provide logistical and functional support during press conferences, workshops, and high-level UN events. โ€ข Assist in drafting, translating and editing communication products (press releases, social media posts). โ€ข Support the development of multimedia content (photography, videography, editing, design of digital/print materials). โ€ข Contribute to UN communication campaigns and visibility activities. โ€ข Support media monitoring by compiling daily/weekly coverage of UN activities in national and regional media. โ€ข Assist with translations between English, Russian, and Kyrgyz, as required. โ€ข Maintain an organized archive of communications materials (news clippings, photos, videos, reports). โ€ข Perform other communications-related duties as requested. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: โ€ข be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher in communications, journalism, marketing, media studies, public relations, international relations, political or social sciences, or a related field.); โ€ข be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme in communications, journalism, marketing, media studies, public relations, international relations, political or social sciences, or a related field. (minimum bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent). โ€ข Demonstrated skills in photography, videography, and use of editing/design software (Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Canva or similar). โ€ข Familiarity with social media platforms and content management. โ€ข Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. โ€ข Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. โ€ข Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a multicultural team environment. โ€ข Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity. โ€ข Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. LanguagesEnglish and Russian are the working languages of the United Nations in Kyrgyzstan. For the position advertised, knowledge of English and Russian, both oral and written, is required. Working knowledge of Kyrgyz is an advantage.
