Mission and objectivesThe United Nations (UN) World Food Programme (WFP) mission is to end global hunger. WFP provides food assistance at the onset of emergencies and to promote economic and social development. The World Food Programme was founded in 1963 and is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. Despite progress, the nutrition and hunger situation remain serious in Pakistan, with a ranking of 109th out of 127 countries in the 2024 Global Hunger Index. It is ranked as the eighth most vulnerable country to the impact of climate change, and has been subject to unprecedented floods. The country is enduring one of its most devastating monsoon seasons in recent years - over 5 million people are affected by intense floods and more than 870 lives have been lost. As rains persist and rivers swell, the number of people affected is expected to rise further. It struggles with high multidimensional poverty. Nearly half of an average householdโs monthly expenditure goes towards food and 82 percent of the population cannot afford a healthy diet. Women and girls face significant barriers in accessing government services due to deep-rooted social and cultural norms. Nationwide, over 26 million children aged 5 to 16 are out of school โ more than half of them girls. A total 18 percent of children under 5 suffer from acute malnutrition, and around 40 percent of children are stunted (impaired growth due to malnutrition). Record-high food and fuel prices, exacerbated by climate change affecting agriculture and infrastructure, have taken a toll on Pakistanโs most vulnerable people. The World Food Programme (WFP) works with the Government and partners to improve food security and nutrition among the poorest households and the most vulnerable communities across the country. In response to ongoing and severe floods, WFP is working with the Government and partners to deliver emergency support and early recovery assistance.

Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need. The Communications Unit is seeking a UN Volunteer (UNV) Communications Associate to support the production of high-quality communications materials and enhance the visibility of WFP and its partners among national and global audiences.
Task DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of Communications Officer, the incumbent is expected to work on the following tasks: โข Develop communications materials that raise WFPโs and donorsโ visibility, highlight Programme impacts, and build momentum for further action. โข Produce human-interest stories that showcase Programme results and amplify community voices. โข Collect and produce videos and photos to strengthen WFPโs visibility across different platforms. โข Produce engaging content for WFPโs social media channels, including X and Facebook. โข Maintain and update the social media content calendar and provide a bi-weekly overview of planned posts, hallmark dates, campaigns, and advocacy opportunities. โข Monitor WFPโs social media platforms daily, track engagement and reach, and prepare monthly performance reports. โข Maintain and update the media directory at national, regional, and international levels. โข Strengthen relationships with journalists, editors, and media partners. โข Support media engagement during events, donor visits, press conferences, briefings, and interviews with senior management. โข Liaise with multimedia companies and communications experts to support the production of high-quality content. โข Provide translation of press releases, op-eds, and other external communication products (English โ Urdu) as required. โข Archive and update all digital communications content for internal and external use. โข Select and upload relevant content to WFPโs Multimedia Hub for global sharing. โข Track and share monthly coverage of WFP in media and social media to support donor communications. โข Any other task assigned by the supervisor.

Living conditions and remarksAs this is a national UNV assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. UNV Field Unit will help you open a Pak rupee bank account with Standard Chartered Bank or any other local bank at your duty station. Assignment remarks: This is a national UNV assignment, and a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of PKR 131,371 is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents), as well as final repatriation (if applicable) and resettlement allowance for satisfactory service.
