Work LocationGeneva Expected durationSix Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Economic and Trade Policy Unit conducts research and provides capacity building support and advisory services to enable the transition to inclusive and green economies. Located within the UN Environment Programme Industry and Economy Division, the Resources and Markets Branch seeks to conserve the environment, reduce poverty, and promote sustainable development by enhancing the capacity of governments, businesses, and civil society to integrate environmental considerations into economic, trade, and financial policies and practices in accordance with integrated policy-making approaches of sustainable development. Over the past years, the focus of Resources and Markets Branch has been UNEP’s work related to Green Economy. The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system's designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP's Industry and Economy Division works with International and nongovernmental organizations, national and local governments, business and industry to develop and implement policies, strategies and practices that are cleaner and safer, incorporate environmental costs, use natural resources efficiently, reduce pollution and risks for humans and the environment, and enable the implementation of conventions and international agreements. Successful candidates will carry out research and provide support to Programme Managers in the following tasks: • Assist in drafting and designing engaging content for social media platforms, tailored to UNEP’s initiatives, and conduct performance analysis using key metrics like engagement, audience growth, and content reach. • Support the development of communication products, including researching, compiling, and organizing information, as well as editing short- and long- form video content for various digital platforms. • Assist in updating and maintaining ETPU’s website by drafting, editing, and uploading content to ensure timely and accurate communication of initiatives, events, and key messages. • Assist with the preparation and coordination of events, including high-level meetings, speaking engagements, workshops, and public facing campaigns. Capture highlights and create content from key events promoting UNEP’s mandates. • Coordinate and produce monthly newsletters using tools like M-Director, ensuring timely distribution to stakeholders and partners while maintaining content accuracy and relevance. • Compile, analyze, and organize data for communications reporting, including monitoring and evaluating statistics related to social media content and communication activities. • Provide logistical and research support for communication campaigns, assist in responding to public inquiries, and contribute to background research, concept notes, and briefings. • Supporting the creation of visual assets for recruitment and procurement notices, as well as facilitating their dissemination to key platforms. • Supporting other activities as requested. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school Programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in Communications, Media, Design, International Affairs, or related fields; b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. Be computer literate in standard software applications. Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required.
