Result of ServiceTo provide technical expertise on communication and graphic design to Planning Finance and Economy Section. Work LocationNairobi / Home based Expected duration6 MONTHS Duties and ResponsibilitiesUN-Habitat, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable and resilient towns and cities. It is the focal point agency for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat envisions well-planned, well-governed and efficient cities and towns, with adequate housing, infrastructure and universal access to employment and basic services such as water, energy, and sanitation. The Urban Practices Branch (UPB) is the tools and methodology production center of the UN- Habitat that develops normative guidance and cutting-edge tools through communities of urban practices and is the operational level responsible to undertake technical cooperation projects, such as the construction of water and sanitation facilities, shelter and other work. The Planning, Finance & Economy Section (PFES) is responsible to support urban and territorial planning at all scales including through the development of planning policy, norms and guidelines, urban design and public space design, urban finance (municipal finance and urban development/projects finance), and local economic development. Reporting and Communication The Communications and Graphic Design Consultant will be hired to collaborate closely with the Flagship Programme Inclusive Communities, Thriving Cities team and Our City Plans team of PFES. He/she will be reporting to the team lead on Our City Plans and Flagship Programme 1. Duties and Responsibilities Under the overall supervision of the Programme Lead on Finance and Economy, the consultant will be responsible for the following duties: • Support and contribute to communication activities, events and materials. • Identify, collate and prepare informative and promotional materials for diverse media, researching different sources of information as required; • Assist with writing of news articles, newsletters, reports, articles, and concept notes. • Coordinate the development of graphic design, photo and video editing of outreach, promotion and information material, such as publications, presentations, catalogues, brochures, videos, flyers, infographics and handbooks. • Review and monitor communication channels and metrics associated with the projects and initiatives; • Update regularly Our City Plans digital platform and social media content, including news and events. • Update regularly Flagship Programme Inclusive Communities, Thriving Cities page and social media content, including news and events. • Support and coordinate the upcoming WUF events and collaboration with different partners • Research best practices for communication and identify the media that fits the projects objectives and purpose; • Assist and plan activities and events regarding all the projects and areas UN-Habitat works. Qualifications/special skillsAcademic Qualification; First Level university degree in fields related to communication, urban planning and architecture, service design, industrial design, urban design or similar is required. Working Experience; At least 2 years of relevant work experience in digital product development, service design, use of no-code development platforms, UX-UI design and digital product research, communications, in collaboration with multidisciplinary work teams is required. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this advertised position fluency in English is required. Additional InformationNot available.
