Org. Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the Housing and Land Management Unit of the Forests, Land and Housing Division at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in Geneva, Switzerland. This position is focused on a sub-specialty such as development economics, international economics (trade, finance and investment), public economics, environmental economics, gender economics or a specific economic sector or sectors. The Associate Economics Affairs Officer reports to the UN4UkrainianCities Programme Management Officer. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Associate Economic Affairs Officer will be responsible for the following duties: Economic and/or sector analysis: โ€ข Collects, evaluates, interprets, analyses specified statistics and qualitative socio-economic information obtained from a variety of sources and pertaining to particular sectors, countries, regions or development topics. โ€ข Assists in the design, testing, operation and modification of econometric models. โ€ข Prepares briefing notes, inputs to speeches and similar material on economic or sector issues in a form that is meaningful to non-specialists; โ€ข Prepares first drafts of sector, country or regional components of analytical studies on development issues and policies. โ€ข Assists in the organization and servicing of expert group meetings, seminars, etc on development issues. Intergovernmental support: โ€ข Prepares inputs for project reports. โ€ข Follows project related meetings and prepares summary reports and similar material. โ€ข Assists in the organization of capacity-building, workshops, panels, round tables etc on development issues discussed within the project. Technical cooperation: โ€ข Compiles and analyses the data and other information necessary for the preparation of technical cooperation project proposals. โ€ข Prepares documentation for technical cooperation programmes and projects. โ€ข Contributes to the preparation of material for the approval of regional, country or sector technical cooperation projects. โ€ข Monitors, backstops and assesses the implementation of technical cooperation programmes and projects. General: โ€ข Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work unitโ€™s services; โ€ข Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities, both internally and externally. โ€ข Contributes to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. A first-level degree (Bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Work ExperienceA minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area is required. Two years of experience in preparing and delivering workshops and capacity-building initiatives is desirable. A minimum of one year of experience in applying development economics in conflict areas is desirable. A minimum of two years of experience with the UN Common System or similar organization is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English is required. French is desirable.
