OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
Within the framework of the UNESCO and the Italian Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the UNESCO โWorld Water Assessment Programme โ WWAPโ, under the overall supervision of the WWAP Senior Water and Gender Programme Specialist, in close collaboration with all members of the WWAP Secretariat, the Gender equality, Environment and Communication Consultant is requested to carry out tasks in the following categories:
Long Description
1.Communication
- Social Media
Carry out WWAP social media communication activities with the overall objective to ensure visibility of WWAP activities and publications, and to grow the follower base. This will be done mainly through regular development and sharing of unique content on the WWAP X (former Twitter) account, updating of accounts followed, and interaction with other accounts. Key objectives are to support water and gender communication for WWAP-related work in GEF MedProgramme CP 2.1, CMDA Mekong Delta Aquifer project and IW Learn. - Generic Communication
Advocacy efforts to maintain visibility of WWAP actions and publications in the field of water and gender related to WWAP support to GEF projects. Support in reporting project implementation and related events to inform donors, colleagues and provide input to generic communication materials such as articles or webpages.- WWAP Water and Gender webpage
Support the development and update of content for the WWAP water and gender website.
Draft of WWAP water and gender GEF project result articles for the UNESCO website and other communication purposes.

2. Knowledge production and capacity development
Provide assistance to WWAP programme officers, potentially in collaboration with other stakeholders, in the development of GEF project-related publication materials through knowledge-based inputs and revision. Support the WWAP Water and gender capacity development programme, notably in the revision and development of training materials.3.Advocacy
Support the preparation of gender and water events related to GEF projects supported by WWAP, both online and in-person, including drafting agendas and invitation letters, liaising with partners and invitees, drafting post-event communication reports and maintain records of event attendance. Tasks may include: provision of inputs to the development of the mid-term strategy of the Call for Action Initiative, assistance to - or co-organization- of related events, delivering presentations, assist in the development of associated materials such as briefings, speeches, scenario, PPT, scripts and communication materials.4. Ad-hoc support
Carry out ad-hoc activities linked to the preparation of relevant documents, speeches, presentations, reporting and gender mainstreaming of publications. REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
Academic Qualifications
- University master degree in relevant field e.g. environment, hydrology, or related natural sciences; social science.
Technical Competencies and Experience Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience, preferably in the fields of freshwater and gender related activities.
- Experience in capacity development activities in topics of water and gender.
- Excellent command of English and very good skills in written and oral communication and presentation.
- Very good IT skills.
- Ability to prioritize and deliver meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work as part of a team, create networks and deal with participatory processes.
