VN 25/27 Computing Service Implementation Lead
EUMETSAT as an organisation is entering an interesting and challenging period, with multiple satellite launches planned over the next few years, alongside a transformational programme of wide-ranging technology refresh projects.
Computing Service is one of the primary services provided by the IT Infrastructure and Data Division to support the ground segment to process data coming from the satellites and also to be able to command the satellite. The infrastructure is evolving as new fleet of satellites are planned to be launched in the coming years.
The Computing Service Implementation Lead will coordinate service contractors, drive these advancements while actively participating in the design, procurement, implementation of solutions. Reporting to the Competence Area Manager for Computer Systems Management and collaborating closely with other IT Teams (Network, Storage, Systems) the successful candidate will manage and evolve EUMETSAT's ground segment computing systems to meet the organization's current and future needs.
This role requires a blend of strong technical expertise and leadership skills, as the candidate will be both a leader and a hands-on contributor, shaping computing service.
Duties
In this role, the successful candidate will have the following key responsibilities:
- Orchestrate the delivery and enhancement of computing systems through effective contractor engagement. This includes providing clear direction, fostering collaboration, and ensuring the high quality of deliverables.
- Drive the design of technical solutions for new programs, translating user needs from customer meetings into innovative and efficient designs, and providing key inputs to the procurement process.
- Develop essential technical documentation, including change documents that provide clear implementation plans, guide contractor activities, and establish robust quality assurance.
- Collaborate with internal service contractors, leveraging their specialist knowledge to ensure seamless integration and execution of technical changes.
- Maintain oversight of critical computing skills and empower technical teams to implement and support these capabilities.
- Optimize project outcomes by effectively managing resources, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS
A university degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field).
LANGUAGES Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French.

Skills and Experience
- Demonstrable experience in managing external contractors, providing effective guidance, and ensuring quality assurance.
- Experience in resource management, task prioritization, and project support.
- 3-5 years of proven experience in Linux system administration, with in-depth knowledge of Linux environments and a willingness to remain hands-on.
- Proven ability to produce clear and concise technical documentation, including comprehensive change management documents.
- A solid understanding of IT infrastructure components, including networking and storage systems, with the ability to take a generalist approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Awareness of the challenges in implementing changes in 24/7 mission critical system; knowledge of and certifications in ITIL, Prince2 are advantageous.
Employment Conditions
The initial contract will be of 4 yearsโ duration, with subsequent 5 year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of follow-up contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT.
This post is graded A2/A4 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 7,340 per month (net of internal tax but excluding pension contribution and insurances) which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
