Background:

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

UN Women hosts the Secretariat of the United Nations Womenโ€™s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF), the only multi-partner trust fund dedicated to accelerating programmatic and institutional support for local womenโ€™s organizations working in fragile settings to respond to crises and build lasting peace. Since its launch in 2016, WPHF has funded and supported the capacity of over 1,400 local and grassroots civil society organizations in 46 crisis-affected countries around the world. UN Women hosts the Secretariat of the Womenโ€™s Peace and Humanitarian Fund. The WPHF Secretariat provides support to the Funding Board, mobilizes resources from Governments, companies, foundations and individuals, provides day to day support to Country Offices implementing WPHF programmes, ensures timely and quality monitoring and reporting, and amplifies the work and impact of WPHF grantee partners around the world. In addition to its Regular Funding Cycle, supporting local interventions led by and working alongside women to contribute to peace and humanitarian action worldwide, WPHF has establish three unique financing mechanisms to respond to new and emerging crises: the Rapid Response Window for Women and Peace Processes, which was requested by the UN SG and supports womenโ€™s participation in track 1 and 2 peace processes and the implementation of peace agreements and the Window for Women Human Rights Defenders, which promotes the protection and the participation of WHRDs in crisis settings.

Under the direct supervision of the Communications and Advocacy Specialist of the Womenโ€™s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (P4) based in New York the WPHF Partnerships and Advocacy Analyst will support the implementation of partnerships and advocacy initiatives globally. The WPHF Partnerships and Advocacy Analyst will have a matrixed reporting line to the Partnerships Specialist (P4) based in Geneva.

Key Functions and Accountabilities:

1. ย  ย  Provide technical support to the Communications and Advocacy Specialist and Partnerships Specialist on coordination of advocacy initiativesย 

Provide technical support to key advocacy and partnerships initiatives.ย  Support the preparation briefing materials for the Senior Management team on issues to be discussed in the UN and other events and meetings; Prepare background materials and analysis for key traditional and non-traditional donor partners. Provide technical support in monitoring and reporting and prepare analytical and regular progress reports on WPHFโ€™s advocacy initiatives.

2. ย  ย Provide technical support to the development of strategic partnerships and resource mobilization efforts

Provide support in managing activities and other promotional events to engage bilateral and multilateral institutions/ donors, private sector and civil society to expand and/or sustain interest and resources for WPHF. Prepare background documents and analysis for Senior Management to forge and implement strategic advocacy partnerships to increase outreach on WPHFโ€™s work. Provide support to development partners and national counterparts on implementation of key UN frameworks and conventions on WPS and HA. Provide network and capacity development to partner Civil Society Organizations and other stakeholders, as necessary. Support the management of donor databases.

3. ย  ย Provide advocacy and communication support

Update the Annual Communications and Advocacy Strategy, and support the conceptualization and execution of public advocacy campaigns. Support coordination and implementation of advocacy campaigns on issues related to Gender Equality and Womenโ€™s Empowerment (GEWE), with a specific focus on WPS and HA. Participate in and contribute to policy dialogues around gender equality and the empowerment of women, as necessary.

4. ย  ย Facilitate knowledge building and sharing

Provide support to the development and dissemination of good practices and lessons learned; ensure incorporation into programme planning; Contribute to capacity building exercises, as necessary.

Functional Competencies:

Recruitment Qualifications:

Education and Certification:

Masterโ€™s degree or equivalent experience in human rights, international relations, development, womenโ€™s rights or non-profit management, fundraising, events management required; A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

At least 2 years of progressively responsible work experience in the fields of Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian issues related to the work of local womenโ€™s civil society organizations and the programmatic work of WPHF is required At least 2 years of experience working with UN actors, INGOs and other intergovernmental organizations, particularly in fields of development is required Experience securing advocacy and private sector partnerships and shaping communications for donors and various audiences is required Experience in project management, visibility and events coordination is required Proficiency in organizational systems and managing outreach lists for donor relations is desiredย ย 

Languages:

Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of Spanish is desirable. Knowledge of another official UN language is also desirable (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian).
