Temporary Research Support Assistant(Internal Vacancy)
Overview The goal of this position is to support the research team by ensuring efficient handling, labeling, and processing of soil and crop samples, while maintaining accurate and timely data entry. The role ensures that sample integrity is preserved throughout the workflow and that associated data is well-organized and readily available for analysis, contributing to the overall quality and reliability of research outcomes.
Duties and responsibilities
1. KPA9-Science Production – Technical Support
Enter sample data accurately into spreadsheets or databases
Assist in inventory management of lab and field supplies related to sample processing
Support field teams with sample collection logistics when needed
Report any inconsistencies, damages, or missing information to supervisors promptly
Any other related tasks from the supervisor.
2. Other Responsibilities
Take reasonable care of own occupational health and safety and that of others as obliged by CIFOR-ICRAF’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy and cooperate with CIFOR-ICRAF in complying with requirements under any statutory health and safety provisions of relevant Country laws.
Observe the CIFOR ICRAF Intellectual Properties (IP) and Data protection policies when generating, updating, using, and accessing the Soils Theme data in the LIMS, Databases and Data verse.
Identify and mitigate potential risks within the laboratory environment.
Liaise and regularly communicate with Laboratory Technician – Sample Reception Officer on issues at the sample reception.
Requirements
Certificate in Science Laboratory Technology or Applied Science with at least 4 yrs. experience in chemistry laboratory work or Diploma in Laboratory Science Technology or Applied Science course with 1 yr. experienceGood laboratory practice analytical skills
Proficiency in ICT
Demonstrable oral and written communication skills.
Education, knowledge and experience • Certificate in Science Laboratory Technology or Applied Science with at least 4 yrs. experience in chemistry laboratory work or Diploma in Laboratory Science Technology or Applied Science course with 1 yr. experience
• Good laboratory practice analytical skills
• Proficiency in ICT
• Demonstrable oral and written communication skills.
Terms and conditions • This is a temporary position for Locally Recruited Staff (LRS). CIFOR-ICRAF offers competitive remuneration in local currency commensurate with skills and experience.
• The appointment will be for be for 3 months.
• The duty station will be in Nairobi, Kenya CIFOR-ICRAF HQ Offices.
