Mission and objectivesThe fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere, in everything the organization does โ in programs, in advocacy and in operations. The equity strategy, emphasizing the most disadvantaged and excluded children and families, translates this commitment to childrenโs rights into action. For UNICEF, equity means that all children have an opportunity to survive, develop and reach their full potential, without discrimination, bias or favouritism. To the degree that any child has an unequal chance in life โ in its social, political, economic, civic and cultural dimensions โ her or his rights are violated. There is growing evidence that investing in the health, education, hygiene/sanitation and protection of a societyโs most disadvantaged citizens โ addressing inequity โ not only will give all children the opportunity to fulfil their potential but also will lead to sustained growth and stability of countries. This is why the focus on equity is so vital. It accelerates progress towards realizing the human rights of all children, which is the universal mandate of UNICEF, as outlined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, while also supporting the equitable development of nations.
Contextpopulation is between the age 0 โ 24. This represents huge potential but also a challenge. Many of them are without opportunity to develop their full potential: 1 out 3 is not participating/completing primary education and only 1 out of 4 completes secondary education. Many of those who do complete their general education do not possess the 21st century skills that are necessary to thrive and access decent jobs. To provide adolescents and young people with the opportunity to re-connect with learning and develop skills that align with their needs, desires and capacities, UNICEF mid-2024, initiated the development of an integrated digital eco-system to guide users on their journey from learning to earning. Through a consultancy โ UNICEF has taken forwards the development of the application and done early testing. This testing demonstrated the need to invest in a platform navigation system, including the integration with other related platforms. Apps, besides the development of adequate contents. What makes Maza unique is its specific target group of adolescents and young people that may have gaps in foundational and basic digital skills. As such it is crucial that Maza is responsive to those needs and ensures their engagement with the platform.
Task DescriptionUNICEF is seeking the help of two online volunteer to help us review the current version of the Maza platform in terms of the following tasks (completely or partially): System Audit and Analysis โข Performance Review: Analyze the current system's performance metrics, including load times, user engagement, and error rates. โข Feature Utilization Analysis: Assess which features are most and least used to understand user preferences and needs. 2. User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) Enhancements โข Usability Testing: Conduct usability tests to observe how users interact with the system and identify any usability issues. โข UI Redesign: Update the user interface to improve aesthetics, navigation, and accessibility based on usability test results. โข Accessibility Improvements: Ensure the system meets accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) to accommodate users with disabilities. 3 Technical Improvements: โข Code Review: Conduct a thorough review of the system's codebase to identify and fix bugs, optimize performance, and improve security. โข Integration Updates: Ensure seamless integration with other systems and update any APIs or third-party services as needed. โข Scalability Enhancements: Improve the system's scalability to handle increased user load and data volume. 4. Security and Compliance โข Security Assessment: Perform a security audit to identify vulnerabilities and implement necessary security measures. โข Compliance Check: Ensure the system complies with relevant data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
