ย Context
ย Under the direct supervision of the Head of Office, the Media & Communications & Event Organization Specialist is responsible for managing external and internal communications, event organization, and donor visibility efforts. The incumbent will develop and implement communication strategies to enhance IOM Hungaryโs visibility, public engagement, and donor recognition while ensuring internal communication flows effectively within the mission.
1. Communication Strategy and Content Development
Develop and implement communication strategies to enhance IOM Hungaryโs public outreach and visibility. Create and manage multimedia content, including press releases, reports, success stories, newsletters, and digital materials. Maintain and update IOM Hungaryโs website and social media channels, ensuring consistent branding and messaging. Monitor media coverage related to migration and IOM activities and provide relevant updates to the Head of Office.2. Media Relations and Public Engagement
Act as a focal point for media inquiries, drafting responses and arranging interviews for IOM representatives. Build and maintain relationships with journalists, media agencies, and communication officers from partner organizations. Prepare press briefings, talking points, and background materials for public engagements and events. Organize and facilitate media visits, press conferences, and storytelling initiatives to highlight IOMโs work.3. Event Organization and Donor Visibility

Facilitate internal communications by ensuring mission-wide dissemination of important updates, policies, and reports. Support the organization of internal staff meetings, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing activities. Manage internal newsletters and updates, fostering a cohesive and informed team environment. Ensure staff have access to relevant IOM branding guidelines, templates, and communication tools.5. Advocacy and Awareness Campaigns
Develop and implement advocacy and awareness-raising campaigns on migration-related issues. Coordinate with programme teams to create campaign messages targeting migrants, host communities, and policymakers. Ensure all materials align with IOMโs global communication guidelines and ethical storytelling principles.6. Other Duties
Support crisis communication efforts during emergency response situations. Undertake duty travel as required to support communication efforts and event organization. Perform other related duties as assigned. Education University degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, International Relations, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience; or High school diploma with six years of relevant professional experience. Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. ย Experience Experience in media relations, public communications, and event organization. Proven ability to develop content for various media platforms, including social media and digital communications. Experience working in an international organization, NGO, or public sector is an advantage. Strong knowledge of branding, donor visibility requirements, and campaign development. Familiarity with design and multimedia tools (Canva, Adobe Suite, video editing software, etc.) is an asset. Knowledge of migration, humanitarian issues, or development communication is desirable. Skills Strong ability to develop and execute communication strategies. Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a clear and engaging style. Proficiency in content creation, including photography, video production, and graphic design. Strong organizational and event management skills. Excellent interpersonal skills to engage media, donors, and stakeholders. Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Languages For this position, fluency in English and Hungarian is required (oral and written) Knowledge of Ukrainian or Russian is an advantage.
