Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. The overall objective of the Industry and Economy Division of UNEP is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities, and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies, practices, and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals, and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices, and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities. The Sustainable Mobility Unit (SMU), within UNEPโ€™s Industry and Economy Division, advances sustainable, low- and zero-emission transport solutions in low- and middle-income countries. Its portfolio includes Programmes on Used Vehicles, the Global Fuel Economy Initiative, Electric Mobility, Transport Digitalisation, Walking & Cycling, and the Partnership for Clean Fuels and Vehicles. As part of its Global Electric Mobility Programme, UNEP implements the BMZ-funded project โ€œE-Mobility as a Driver for Change: Towards a Gender-Transformative and Just Transition to Electric Mobility,โ€ which addresses the nexus of gender equality and e-mobility across six pilot countries. UNEP is further supporting nearly 60 low- and middle-income countries in their transition to electric mobility, contributing to improved air quality and climate change mitigation. The Sustainable Mobility Unit (SMU) requires the services of a Sustainable Mobility Gender Consultant for a period of six months to support two flagship initiatives: \"E-Mobility as a Driver for Change โ€“ Towards a Gender Transformative and Just Transition to Electric Mobility.\" This project aims to increase womenโ€™s representation and participation across the electric mobility value chain. It seeks to embed gender-transformative approaches into policy, industry practices, and capacity development, ensuring a just transition that creates opportunities for women and marginalized groups. The project is being piloted in Kenya, Uganda, Ecuador, Colombia, Vietnam, and Indonesia. \"Safer, Healthier and Cleaner Transport in Africa.\" This project strengthens national capacities in selected African countries to accelerate action for resilient, low-carbon mobility. It places a strong emphasis on inclusivity, health, safety, and comfort, particularly for people who walk and cycle, supporting governments to design and implement policies that promote sustainable urban mobility.
