CONTEXT
The GGGI Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) Program has expanded from a team of 12 in three countries in 2017 to a team of +150 across 12 countries in 2025. In 2025, GGGI manages a US$ +25M project portfolio in Latin America.
Sustainable Landscapes centers on sustaining healthy and functioning forests, agrarian landscapes, waterways, coastal and marine ecosystems. Forests, soils, wetlands (including peatlands and mangroves) as well as marine systems are natural assets or natural capital which are interconnected and provide services which are of significant value to sustaining local and global economies.
Sustainable management and restoring the functions of these forests, waterways, agrarian, coastal and marine systems is critical for inclusive and sustainable economic growth โ green growth. Even though the private sector is financing increasing numbers of projects in these natural resource-based sectors, investment in landscape restoration falls short. Given the growth of the LAC regionโs portfolio and available opportunities in this region, GGGI is seeking a Sustainable Landscapes Regional Lead. This role will provide technical leadership, lead government and donor engagement, oversee personnel, manage resources, and ensure delivery quality across the region.
POSITION SUMMARY
Based in Lima, Peru, the Regional Lead is expected to originate and develop a pipeline of projects in the assigned region, particularly on scalable projects in the AFOLU sector which results in reduced carbon emissions from forests and enhanced carbon sinks at scale. The Regional Lead identifies and develops risk reduction strategies, advises on technologies and best practices to enhance returns and productivity to scale sustainable landscape implementation. The Regional Lead is expected to build partnerships and networks with governments, private sector and investment institutions.
PURPOSE
The position will be responsible for developing substantive inputs and analyze the development, delivery, and assessment of work related to the implementation and monitoring of the Sustainable Landscapes thematic area with limited supervision of a manager and in close work with the relevant institutions. The position will guide project development and implementation at regional/national level, assess its effectiveness and recommend new initiatives and partnerships. Also, the position will provide substantial advice/analysis of current products and project components, identifying opportunities and areas for improvement and generating knowledge sharing opportunities to enhance GGGIโs programmatic capacity.
ENGAGEMENT
Report to the GGGI Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Lead the engagement with partners and donors to strengthen GGGI positioning and advance GGGI mission and mandate regarding sustainable landscapes;
Foster cross-country collaboration across Latin America and other regions where GGGI has presence;
Engaging with experts, government counterparts and organizations to translate GGGI Strategy into innovative solutions and service offerings;
Lead internal thematic engagement with LAC Country Programs, Regional Office, Green Growth Implementationโ GGI โ Directorate, and HQ to build the visibility of the region, identify and build synergies and complementarities across programs;
Support with technical and strategic advisory to the LAC Regional Director on new areas of program expansion, enhancement and trouble-shorting;
Engage in partnerships and support facilitation of discussion between investors, government and various stakeholders across the program;
Coordinate closely with the LAC teams as needed to build complementary capabilities and stronger technical delivery to government and private sector partners towards achievement of program goals and desired impact;
Develop strong networks among other international cooperation agencies and international organizations, NGOs, government institutions, private sector stakeholders and other relevant parties that could support and facilitate GGGI's delivery, scalability and impact in LAC.
Mentor, coach, and promote staff development under your supervision to foster professional growth and enhance team performance.
DELIVERY
Lead / support Resource Mobilization for Sustainable Landscapes in Latin America.
Lead the development of idea, concept notes, and funding proposals on Sustainable Landscapes seeking scale and articulation across GGGI priority Programmatic Solutions;
Conduct all required analysis for the successful development of sustainable landscape projects which results in emission reductions in the forest sector and enhanced forest carbon sinks, originating together with GGGI country teams to support countries meet NDC and SDG targets
Provide technical advice to GGGI staff, private sector and government counterparts on sustainable landscape management;
Lead the implementation of programs, projects and actions related to the Sustainable Landscapes thematic area in LAC;
Oversee and ensure on-time on-budget delivery and high-quality quality execution of GGGI projects and programs across the region;
Lead the thematic strategy setting processes for donor, partners, and governments engagement strategies;
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
An advanced degree (Masterโs or PhD) in Climate Change, Sustainable Development, Forestry, Agriculture, Biology, or other related fields;
Preferably 15 years of professional experience as a project and program manager, demonstrating a trajectory of increasing responsibility and complexity of projects under management;
At least 10 years of working experience in the promotion and implementation of integrated landscape management strategies, low-carbon, carbon markets, AFOLU and/or forestry in LAC countries.
Demonstrated experience building and maintaining positive relations with government stakeholders;
Demonstrated experience leading the development of multi-annual, multi-million proposals (at least USD $10M);
Field experience and context understanding of local communities, environment and development institutions, bottlenecks, issues and policies at the national and local levels;
Experience in managing projects (with international funding) that include multistakeholder and multisector participation, with the involvement of international cooperation agencies, international organizations, NGOs, government institutions and other relevant parties.
Preferably previous experience working in international organisms similar to the Global Green Growth Institute -where collaboration between regional, country offices and thematic officers is key towards the achievement of the objectives.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The Lead is a National Position at X10 grade level in GGGIโs Peru scale. The starting salary for the position is USD 81,328 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. International Positions are eligible to receive additional benefits, including relocation allowance, expatriate allowance, education and childcare allowance.
