Mission and objectivesThe United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. Volunteerism is a powerful means of engaging people in tackling development challenges, and it can transform the pace and nature of development. Volunteerism benefits both society at large and the individual volunteer by strengthening trust, solidarity, and reciprocity among citizens, and by purposefully creating opportunities for participation. UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for recognition of volunteers, working with partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing an increasing number and diversity of volunteers, including experienced UN Volunteers, throughout the world. UNV embraces volunteerism as universal and inclusive and recognizes volunteerism in its diversity as well as the values that sustain it: free will, commitment, engagement and solidarity.
ContextUNV West and Central Africa manages several multilingual platforms that showcase stories, field updates, and advocacy efforts related to volunteerism. As of mid-2025, the total audience across platforms is over 80,000 followers. This campaign seeks to increase that number by at least 5,000 new followers across platforms, particularly boosting underperforming accounts such as Instagram. Online Volunteers will be tasked with strategically sharing content provided by the UNV Communications Team via weekly โShare Kitsโ and engaging their networks through reposts, shares, tags, and relevant group posts. The campaign will prioritize organic reach, community engagement, and real follower growth. To ensure impact across the region, this campaign will adopt a dual approach: Deepen engagement in countries where we already have strong audiences, such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Nigeria, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Cรดte dโIvoire, and Cameroon. Online Volunteers from these countries will help drive immediate reach and follower growth by tapping into existing engagement. Build new audiences in underrepresented countries such as Mauritania, The Gambia, Central African Republic, Guinea-Bissau, Togo, Sรฃo Tomรฉ and Prรญncipe, Gabon, and Equatorial Guinea. Online Volunteers in these locations will help establish first visibility, translate content where needed, and lay the foundation for future outreach. Volunteers who can translate and adapt content into local languages (e.g. Arabic, Hausa, Wolof, Lingala, etc.) are especially encouraged to apply.
Task DescriptionWe are looking for 20 online volunteers to provide assistance which includes: Repost and share 3โ4 UNV West and Central Africa social media posts per week on their personal channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn). Use the provided captions in English and French or adapt them to fit their audience and platform style. Always include a clear call to action (e.g., โFollow @UNV_ROWCAโ). Share content in relevant online communities such as WhatsApp groups, Facebook groups, and LinkedIn networks. Ensure all shared content is accessible and inclusive. Submit a brief activity report at the end of the campaign, using a template that will be provided. Upon selection, Online Volunteers will join a coordination WhatsApp group and receive a starter kit with clear instructions and weekly content to share. They will support UNV West and Central Africaโs visibility campaign over a six-week period by amplifying key content and encouraging follower growth. This collaboration offers volunteers practical experience in digital outreach and the opportunity to contribute directly to the UNโs communication efforts in the region. On completion, the online volunteers will be provided with a volunteer certificate for their remarkable contribution.
