5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesUNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. UNICEF is guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child and strives to establish children's rights as enduring ethical principles and international standards of behaviour towards children. UNICEF insists that the survival, protection and development of children are universal development imperatives that are integral to human progress. UNICEF mobilizes political will and material resources to help countries, particularly developing countries, ensure a \"first call for children\" and to build their capacity to form appropriate policies and deliver services for children and their families. UNICEF is committed to ensuring special protection for the most disadvantaged children โ€“ victims of war, disasters, extreme poverty, all forms of violence and exploitation, and those with disabilities. UNICEF responds in emergencies to protect the rights of children. In coordination with United Nations partners and humanitarian agencies, UNICEF makes its unique facilities for rapid response available to its partners to relieve the suffering of children and those who provide their care. UNICEF is non-partisan and its cooperation is free of discrimination. In everything it does, the most disadvantaged children and the countries in greatest need have priority. UNICEF aims, through its country programmes, to promote the equal rights of women and girls and to support their full participation in the political, social and economic development of their communities. UNICEF works with all its partners towards the attainment of the sustainable human development goals adopted by the world community and the realization of the vision of peace and social progress enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.

ContextUNICEF Angola urgently needs to mobilise resources to deliver child protection results for children and women, particularly in a context of multiple vulnerabilities, competing donor priorities, and increasing demands for accountability. This requires identifying funding opportunities and developing a strong pipeline of innovative, evidence-based child protection and gender-based proposals to sustain UNICEFโ€™s Country Programme. Working with the Chief of the Child Protection Section, the selected candidate will play a pivotal role in identifying funding opportunities (including with the private sector) and developing high-quality funding proposals.

Task Descriptionwithin the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Chief of Child Protection, the volunteer will: Donor Mapping and Pipeline Development: Identify and monitor potential funding opportunities from bilateral and multilateral donors, foundations, and private sector partners for child protection and cross sectorial programming with education and health. Develop and maintain a funding pipeline aligned with UNICEFโ€™s Country Program and Child Protection Sectionโ€™s priorities, particularly in the areas of prevention and response to violence against children and women; girlsโ€™ empowerment; Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) to prevent teenage pregnancy, Child Marriage and Birth Registration / legal identity. Create and maintain a funding opportunity tracker. Proposal and Project Development Lead the drafting and coordination of concept notes and full proposals, ensuring integration of gender equality, disability and child-rights-based approaches. Ensure proposals are innovative, evidence-based, and aligned with donor priorities and UNICEFโ€™s Country Programme, promoting gender transformative programming. Collaborate with UNICEF Finance/Operations, PME and Communication Teams to develop sound budgets that reflect both programmatic and UNICEF values. Donor Engagement and Advocacy Prepare quality and engaging donor briefs and presentations to present project ideas and secure funding for child protection programming in Angola highlighting cross sectorial programming with education and health, in particular. Support donor communication by preparing donor reports, success stories, and advocacy notes highlighting impact for children, including adolescent girls, working closely with the child protection team in Angola and with implementing partners. Grant Management and Knowledge Sharing Ensure smooth start-up and handover of new grants with clear deliverables for the section. Maintain an updated grants database to track implementation levels an ensure alignment with donor proposals. Document lessons learned and innovative practices on the child protection website page to give visibility to the work of UNICEF in this area.
