Soil Scientistโ MCA Nepal Reforestation POSITION DETAILS Winrock is recruiting a Soil Scientists for the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) Reforestation project in Nepal. This position is contingent upon award. ESSENTIAL RESPONSBILITIES Undertake site surveys, supplemented by reviews of available reports and information, to enable provision of advice to the SFDP and the team on implications of terrain, geomorphology and soil characteristics on species selection and silviculture. Working with the GIS and mapping specialist, prepare detailed terrain, geomorphology, soils and flood risk maps of all plantation areas. Identify the optimal locations for sources of forest topsoil for use in the nursery. Provide advice as required for community engagement activities, particularly relating to productive activities such as fodder tree and grass cultivation. Produce specialist reports as required by the Project Manager QUALIFICATIONS AND BACKGROUND: Education: Masters degree in soil science Work Experience: 15 years of experience in forestry and / or agriculture projects and programs in Nepal, of which at least 3 should be in the Terai. Proven experience in developing and managing MEL frameworks for reforestation or similar environmental projects. Proven ability to foster and maintain partnerships, particularly with private sector actors, communities, and government agencies. Self-motivated and able to work independently. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Language skills: Fluent in Nepali, Advanced English (written and spoken) required. Winrock is an equal opportunity employer.
