Socio-Environmental Risk Management Consultant ESR/CPN

About this position
We are looking for a highly motivated socio-environmental risk management consultant from Chile, Ecuador, Jamaica, or Panama to join our group of professionals that conduct quality and risk review of IDB-financed operations and monitor E&S risks at the portfolio level.
You will work in the Environmental and Social Risk Management Unit, part of the Office of Risk Management Department. This team is responsible for: (i) providing climate, disaster, environmental, social, and governance risk oversight of IDB-financed portfolio; (ii) conducting quality assurance of the environmental and social risk management solutions of IDB-financed operations throughout the project cycle, with special attention to high and substantial risk operations; (iii) managing and reporting information on the environmental and social risk of IDB portfolio; and (iv) transferring lessons learned to relevant departments, as well as contributing to the development of training, risk awareness, and guidance on environmental and social risks.
What youโll do:
The objective of this consultancy is to support the Unit from a local IDB office in the following key activities:
- Conduct socio-environmental quality assurance and risk reviews of IDB-financed operations (e.g., loans, grants, technical cooperation, etc.) to enhance socio-environmental risk management and sustainability of the IDB portfolio.
- Provide socio-environmental risk advisory for the assigned country and region, and produce knowledge products such as country risk profiles, country-specific portfolio reports, technical notes, among others.
- Perform portfolio analyses to assess the exposure to socio-environmental risks and measure the level of materialized impacts, in coordination with country offices and project teams, including environmental and social specialists.
- Identify socio-environmental trends and opportunities, formulate recommendations, and draw lessons learned to be disseminated for continuous improvement.
- Participate in the design and implementation of risk awareness and capacity building activities for selected countries with the objective of strengthening the ability of the IDB and executing agencies to manage socio-environmental risks.
What you'll need
- Education: Masterโs degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in environmental / social science, environmental / social management / sustainable development / risk management or related field
- Experience: At least 5 years of relevant experience preferably in environmental and social safeguards and risk management, working with multilateral financial institutions, international non-government organizations, government agencies, or the private sector with an understanding of approaches to environmental and social safeguards in Latin America and the Caribbean in assessing and managing the environmental and social impacts of projects.
- Languages: Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is required. โve changed this since we may have someone from Jamaica in which case Spanish is not needed.

Requirements:
- Citizenship: choose one of the following: IDB: You are either a citizen of Chile, Ecuador, Jamaica, or Panama, or a citizen of one of our 48-member countries eligible to obtain a valid residency or legal permit to work in Chile, Ecuador, Jamaica, or Panama without the need for sponsorship by the IDB.
- Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

- Type of contract: National Consultant Full-Time.
- Length of contract: 19 months.
