ContextThe World Health Organization (WHO) has taken active steps to combat misinformation, especially during global health crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. Ensuring that the public receives accurate, timely and trusted health information is essential to improving health literacy and strengthening community resilience. In the Western Pacific Region, WHO works closely with member states to conduct ongoing RCCE and social listening activities, understanding public concerns, identifying misinformation trends and supporting evidence-based health communication strategies. The products developed through this assignment will directly contribute to detecting misinformation and information gaps, supporting ongoing social listening efforts in the Region. The Online Volunteersโ contributions through this task will support the World Health Organizationโs work toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3 โ โGood Health and Well-Being,โ by helping the infodemic management, strengthening community trust, and promoting informed health decision-making.
Task DescriptionWe are looking for one Online Volunteer who, under the guidance of the Technical Officer, Risk Communication and Community Engagement, in close collaboration with the communications team, will support us by contributing to the social listening system to detect misinformation in the Western Pacific. In particular, the Online Volunteer is asked to: - Conduct daily social listening scans using our Talkwalker tool to identify trends, risks, misinformation, and public sentiment for 1-2 hours per day. - Produce concise daily summaries highlighting key findings and significant conversations on high-priority hazards (The length of the brief daily summary and weekly reports will depend on the infodemic signals collected for that week). - Develop weekly reports synthesizing observed patterns, shifts in narratives, and strategic considerations (The length of the brief daily summary and weekly reports will depend on the infodemic signals collected for that week). - Provide timely alerts on emerging issues requiring immediate attention within 1 day. - This assignment should be approx. 1-2 hours per day for social listening scan and reports drafting.
