OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
To eradicate polio from Pakistan as per the objectives laid out in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) Strategic Plan 2022-2029 as well as to reduce morbidity and mortality of other EPI target diseases through implementation of IA2030 strategies.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator/Team Leader for Polio and EPI and the general guidance of the WHO Representative, the incumbent in close collaboration with national authorities will assist in managing and directing WHO's inputs to polio eradication and EPI in country, including:
ย Provide technical support in the development of the annual National Emergency Action Plans for polio eradication, and monitor the implementation of WHO's work towards the NEAP execution as well as providing the Team Leader with regular updates and assistance in the yearly evaluation of the NEAP.ย
Provide technical support for development of national and provincial EPI strategic plans with the overall objectives to achieve the goals of IA2030. Manage the work of the technical and operational units within the WHO Polio/EPI team at the national level, under the guidance of the Coordinator/Team Leader, in particular those units covering operations and immunization. Collaborate with the Polio and EPI Partnerships, including Ministry, UNICEF, Gavi, CDC, Rotary and GF to ensure the proper and timely implementation of National Emergency Action Plan and national and provincial EPI plans. Assess and strengthen Post Campaign Assessment Surveys and assessments of EPI coverage, SIAs and all immunization Data Management and analysis to monitor progress. Support the Ministry in the implementation and evaluation of new initiatives in collaboration with other partners. Undertake regular performance reviews of the field staff to strengthen management and accountability. Provide technical guidance to the Ministry of Public Health and field staff to maintain highly sensitive AFP and vaccine-preventable disease surveillance systems which meet the global standards of performance.ย Collaborate with the partners to supervise and support the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of routine and Supplemental Immunization Activities (SIA) in the field and prepare the necessary reports. Undertake advocacy activities and hold meetings with senior officials to ensure their full support and commitment and engage new partners to strengthen Routine Immunization/Poliomyelitis Eradication activities. Provide technical guidance for the implementation of EPI, including planning for the strengthening of immunization services, implementing plans for using the polio eradication infrastructure to support broader immunization goals, and strengthening surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases based on the experience of surveillance for acute flaccid paralysis. Prepare programme reports and follow up reports for special activities within the programme, particularly on poliomyelitis eradication and EPI. ย Advocate/promote collaboration for activities with potential donors and UN partners in eradicating polio and controlling other EPI target diseases by taking the leading role in these activities. Undertake other duties, as required, in relation to other programmes of collaboration
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: University degree in Medicine or health related field and Master's Degree in Public Health, majoring in epidemiology.
Desirable:
Experience
Essential: At least 10 years of combined relevant experience at the national and international levels in public health, particularly disease control.
Desirable: Experience in immunization programmes as well as in-field training.
Skills
Ability to administer and to evaluate public health programmes, especially EPI programmes and polio eradication. Being able to build and promote partnership across the organization and beyond. Capacity promoting WHO's position in health leadership.ย Demonstrated ability to work constructively with people of different cultural and educational backgrounds. Excellent Knowledge and technical expertise in epidemiology and diseases prevention, control and eradication..

REMUNERATION
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 101,540 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 2945 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
