ย Senior Scientific Officer - Pearl Millet Breeding
ICRISAT seeks applications from dynamic and motivated Indian nationals as Senior Scientific Officer -Pearl Millet Breeding under the cluster Accelerated Breeding in the Global Research Program Accelerated Crop Improvement. This position will be based at ICRISATโs Headquarters in Patancheru, Hyderabad, Telangana, India. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting the conductance of Pearl Millet breeding projects, Project partnerโs trials, Pearl Millet main streaming activities, data analysis work and preparation of project.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for Scientific support and maintain breeding nurseries and trials records.
Monitoring partnerโs locations trials and breeding nurseries and data collection.
Digitalizing breeding and field trials data and its management.
Handling breeding operations such hybrid production, back crossing, selfing etc.,
Executing the planned scientific experiments and data analyses.
Handling cold storage materials and its record for millet breeding.
Provide help and support to various on-going research activities in millet breeding program.
Provide support to Scientist in data summary and drafting appendices and other related jobs from time to time.
Engagement
Assist in selection of breeding materials, seed production and constitution of trials for multi-location testing
Assist in monitoring of project trials and strategic trials at out locations
Assist in migration of pearl millet breeding data from HQ and partner sites, location info and pedigree to BMS platform.
Delivery
Ensures the execution of breeding experiments as per the agreed plans and schedules.
Identifies and resolves quality issues in developing new products as per the agreed product profiles.
Acumen for breeding-pedigree data management and data analysis is desirable
Should be a good team player and adaptable to working in multicultural team
Knowledge on grain micronutrients and its estimation methods is highly desirable
Required Skills and Qualifications:
M.Sc. in Plant Breeding and Genetics from a reputed university with sound academic record
The candidate should have a minimum of 2-5 years of working experience in breeding techniques and its operations
Working Knowledge on field designs for trials planning and randomization
Know data management methods and ability to use computer (MS office, Excel, Access) and field tabs.
Experience of working with teams and knowledge of local language will be an added advantage
General:
This is a contractual role for a period of 36 months (3 years), renewable based on the performance of the incumbent and the instituteโs continuing need for the position.
