ย Context
In eastern Chad, IOMโs response includes cross-border response into Darfur, Sudan, as well as response inside Chad for people who have fled Sudan. Almost one million people have fled Darfur to date, a mixed flow of Sudanese refugees and Chadian returnees. More than two years into the war, the response spans frontline humanitarian response for continued new arrivals given the ongoing severity of the situation in Darfur, and resilience programming looking at the longer term for communities impacted by high levels of influx and mobility in Chad. In June 2025, IOM opened a new field office in Iriba, Wadi Fira, focusing on the returnee and migrant population present in the province. The field office is integrated in IOMโs East Chad coordination, with the head office in Farchana (Ouaddai).
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Programs and direct supervision of the Head of Sub-Office in Farchana, the Senior Project Assistant will be tasked with driving the successfulย implementation of the multisectoral emergency response in Wadi Fira, as well as other resilience and related activities.ย
The incumbent will act as the team leader in the province ensuring IOMโs representation before relevant authorities, communities and other coordination actors. The candidate will also monitor and follow up on IOM action, while finding synergies between activities and among partners.
- Assist in the planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of project activities.ย
- Compile, summarize, analyse, and present information/data on specific project topics,ย highlighting noteworthy issues for the consideration of appropriate parties.
- Monitor budget implementation and propose adjustments as necessary.ย ย
- Act as focal point for administrative coordination of project implementation, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units and external parties to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, follow-up on administrative actions, etc.
- Draft status reports; identify shortfalls in delivery, bring them to the attention of the supervisor and suggest corrective measures.ย
- Draft correspondence on project issues; prepare and update reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, and other forms of documentation.
- Organize meetings, workshops and training sessions; prepare training materials and participate in the delivering of capacity building workshops.
- Respond to complex information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records.
- Participate in meetings and conferences; maintain effective liaison and coordination with local authorities, partners, United Nation agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, donors and other stakeholders relevant to the project.ย
- Monitor work of implementing partners and report any non-compliance to the supervisor.
- Provide inputs for the development of Standard Operations Procedures (SOP) and concept papers and provide general support for the development of new projects.
- Provides guidance/training and assist in coordinating and monitoring work of other staff in the unit; may supervise other staff as assigned.ย

- School diploma with six years of relevant experience; or,
- Bachelorโs degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience. - Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations;ย
- Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
- Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage. Skills
