Job Purpose
In 2005, PIH and its Rwandan sister organization, Inshuti Mu Buzima (IMB), began working in partnership with the government of Rwanda to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic afflicting the population and to comprehensively strengthen the public health system in rural, underserved districts in Rwanda. Today, PIH supports delivery of comprehensive integrated non-communicable disease (NCD) services in three rural districts of Rwanda, including cancer care. Cancer care is predominantly based at the flagship Butaro Cancer Center of Excellence (BCCOE), which was inaugurated in June 2012 and has since provided care to over 9000 patients, with services ranging from cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Summary role: Perform medical imaging technics for diagnostic purposes. Follow established radiologic
requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities and Duties
- Assess patients clinical requirements to determine appropriate radiographic techniques
- Perform a range of medical imaging examinations on patients to produce high quality images
- Observe and maintain care contact for patients during their waiting time, examination and post examination stay in the department to ensure their safety and comfort
- Support conduct of complex radiological exams under radiologist and senior staff supervision
- Provide support and reassurance to patients, preparing patient for exam by explaining procedure, taking into account their physical and psychological needs
- Recording imaging identification and patient clinical data accurately and completely
- Ensure compliance with Guidelines / radiological practices and patient confidentiality
- Have knowledge and comply with health and safety issues at work and welfare issues, including ionizing radiation regulations, to protect yourself and others
- Ensure that equipment is regularly checked for malfunctions and any faults are reported
- Supervise and supporting in training students rotating in the Department.
- Participate in quality assurance / accreditation process of the Hospital
- Attend and actively participate in clinical departmental meetings
- Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- At least an Advanced Diploma in Medical Imaging Sciences
- Having a diploma and working specialization in medical imaging techniques and equipment
- With at least 3 years of experience as a medical imaging technologist
- 3-5 yearsโ experience in imaging services from a reputable health/radiology center
- At least 2 yearsโ experience with CT Scan and mammography machines is desirable.
- Experience using Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS)
- Show expert skills, knowledge, experience and passion for medical imaging techniques
- Be motivated in medical imaging related patient management and care
- Have compassion for vulnerable population, advocacy for their well-being and medical needs
- Be comfortable working in resource limited settings
- Persuaded and practicing the principles of equity
- Highly organized and able to manage a heavy patient load
- Strong management, communication, mentoring, teaching and leadership skills.
- Ability to work well with diverse team
- Ability to work and live in rural settings.
