Project Context and Scope ย
The consultant will be responsible for conducting research, writing policy reports and delivering presentations to a range of national stakeholders on economic conditions in Iraq. Specific topics may include, but are not limited to, micro, small and medium enterprise (MSMEs) development and access to finance; livelihoods adaptation to climate change; the socio-economic reintegration of displaced persons, returnees, and other marginalized populations; and womenโs economic empowerment.
IOM, globally and within Iraq, is a major actor in post-conflict recovery and reconstruction. The livelihoods programme of IOM Iraq covers a range of activities, with an emphasis on the provision of financial and technical support to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to address gaps in access to finance and promote employment creation. Livelihoods programming contributes to creating conducive conditions to achieve durable solutions in communities affected by forced displacement as a result of conflict and climate change. To inform its economic recovery programming, IOM conduts research through in-house capacity and partnerships with national actors and global universities. ย ย Organizational Department / Unit to which the Consultant is contributing
Under the overall supervision of the Programme Coordinator (Livelihoods), and the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator (Research). ย This opportunity is open to both national and international consultants. ย Tasks to be performed under this contract
Education, Experience and/or skills required
Masterโs degree in economics, development economics, political economy or a related field with a year of relevant professional experience, or Bachelorโs degree with two years of professional experience (required). Knowledge and proven experience working with R (programming language), Stata or equivalent statistical software (required). Quantitative research methods training (survey research, applied econometrics and/or machine learning), with a demonstrated ability to work independently (required). Strong writing and communication skills (required). Experience in producing policy briefs and communicating research insights in an accessible manner to a generalist audience (preferred). Knowledge and expertise in development economics (preferred). Fluency in Arabic and English (both required). ย Languages ยFluency in English is required; proficiency in Arabic is an advantage ย ย ย IOMโs official languages are English, French and Spanish.
