Mission and objectivesUNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPAโs strategic plan, focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices. UNFPA has been operating in India since 1974. The Population Dynamics (PD) unit focuses on generation of evidence on emerging population issues such as ageing, migration, low fertility, climate change, demographic dividend as well as on UNFPAโs thematic areas including sexual and reproductive health and gender equality to inform policies and programmes at the national and subnational levels. The role of PD unit to strengthen use of data and analysis by building the capacities of government institutions to generate, analyse and disseminate disaggregated population data, by geography and social groups, for use in the planning and monitoring of programmes to address inequalities and reach vulnerable populations; providing technical inputs into the upcoming population census and larger scale national surveys on health, population and gender, including for the collection of disaggregated data on gender-based violence and harmful practices; strengthening policy research and demographic intelligence for the integration of population dynamics and megatrends into sustainable development planning efforts and convening policy dialogues and raising awareness, improving knowledge of policymakers and advocating for ap-propriate policies at both the national and State levels on population and its interlinkages with sustainable development, including in relation to the demographic dividend, population ageing, urbanization, migration and climate change, including the life-cycle approach to such population change
Context The role of UN Volunteer is to assist the Population Dynamics (PD) team members in under-taking secondary data analysis to address inequalities and reach vulnerable populations and addressing emerging population issues, under the guidance of the Research Specialist.
Task DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of Population Dynamics and Research Specialist, the UN University Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: โข Assist in coordination with the implementing partners of research projects and UN support to 2027 Census โข Support in data analysis in generating evidence for policy advocacy and programming. โข Support in strategic research initiatives by collecting, compiling and analysis of data from various sources and support dissemination of such research for advocacy and policy level discussion. โข Assist in documentation and knowledge management of generating evidences on emerg-ing population issues and thematic research. โข Contribute to preparing training resources for capacity building of government officials on use of data for decision making at the local levels. โข Provide data related support to the State offices and thematic clusters. โข Support COโs efforts in organizing dissemination events / roundtables for policy advocacy. โข Support in preparing research briefs based on evidence generated for policy advocacy. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: โข Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); โข Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; โข Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; โข Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publica-tions/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; โข Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; โข Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Living conditions and remarksNew Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region is a large and bustling metropolis of some 14 million people undergoing rapid changes. The capital city is an administrative, cultural and commercial center with modern amenities and well connected by air. It is a safe place with large expatriate community drawn from embassies, UN agencies, MNCs and foreign businesses. It has short moderate winter and long hot summer. As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in New Delhi. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
