It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The External Re-lations, Strategy, Knowledge and Innovation Division (ERSKID) is responsible for strategic planning, programmatic direction, and operationalization of UN-Habitat's role for the New Urban Agenda, and 2030 Agenda. ERSKID is also leading the preparation of the World Urban Forum, established in 2001 to address one of the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid ur-banization and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change and policies. Con-vened by UN-Habitat, the Forum is a high level, open and inclusive platform for addressing the challenges of sustainable urbanization. The World Urban Forum has three main objectives. First to raise awareness of sustainable urbanization among stakeholders and constituencies, including the public. Second, to improve collective knowledge on sustainable urban development through open and inclusive debate, exchange of best practices and policies, and sharing of lessons learnt. Third, to promote collaboration and cooperation between different stakeholders and constituen-cies engaged in the advancement and implementation of sustainable urbanization. The next session (13th) is taking place in May 2026 in Baku and targets to gather around 20,000 urban stakeholders, including Ministers and Heads of States. Under the supervision of the ERSKID Director, the consultant is expected to provide substantive, operational and coordination for WUF13 through urban research and analytics for substantive preparations, coordination and reporting. The responsibilities would be as follows: โข Undertake research and policy analysis on global monitoring and reporting on the New Ur-ban Agenda towards the World Urban Forum โข Support preparations for the mid-term review of the New Urban Agenda preparations and global consultations to be featured at the World Urban Forum โข Support for the curation and technical backstopping for high level Ministerial engagements on the New Urban Agenda at the World Urban Forum โข Preparing data, background analysis and research inputs for the global review of the pro-gress with SDG 11 for consideration at the World Urban Forum โข Support the presentation and review of the global SDG 11 report at the 2026 UN High Level Political Forum โข Supporting the coordination of the Global Data Coalition and its work in the context of the World Urban Forum working with relevant partners and stakeholders โข Support reporting of the outcomes of the World Urban Forum with respects to the imple-mentation, monitoring and reporting of the New Urban Agenda โข Backstop the preparation of the WUF perspectives report as it relates to the New Urban Agenda and SDG 11 Qualifications/special skillsAdvanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in business administration, public administration, economics, urban planning, social science or a related field is required. A first university degree with a combination of two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.. Minimum of five years of varied experiences with international organizations and/or significant previous background in institutional environment of development cooperation (NGOs, UN system, multilateral cooperation, etc.) is required. Experience in research with knowledge of policy and data analysis is required LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
