Salary InformationFJD$ 133,466 net per annum. Free of Fijian income tax and subject to pension and private medical insurance deductions. 30 days annual leave per year (pro rata)

The International Maritime Organization (IMO), Headquartered in London, is a specialized agency of the United Nations with global responsibility for the technical regulation of maritime transport. The Organization also provides mechanisms for cooperation among Governments. The IMO Council approved the establishment of a scheme for the promotion of IMOโs Regional Presence in selected developing regions, as a strategy of facilitating IMOโs input into national and regional development policies and providing active field-level participation in the development and execution of IMOโs technical cooperation programmes. The overall objective of the IMO Regional Presence Scheme is to facilitate IMO's input into national and regional development policies and provide active field-level participation in the development, execution, and coordination of the delivery of IMO's technical cooperation programme. The Regional Coordinator will be located in Suva, Fiji and the Government of the Republic of Fiji, have offered to host the operations of IMOโs Regional Presence Office for the Pacific Region and shall provide administrative support. Duties and ResponsibilitiesDuties / Responsibilities1. The incumbent will report to the Head, Asia Pacific Section under the supervision of the Senior Deputy Director, Maritime Development, Technical Cooperation and Implementation Division, and will undertake any duties assigned in connection with IMO's technical cooperation activities. 2. Analyse available data and support the Member States in mapping and Identifying their capacity development gaps, tailor-made their needs applying a thematic approach and setting priorities in conjunction with the relevant Member Statesโ national maritime strategy, IMSAS audit outcomes, previous TC activities, for subsequent review and consideration by the Head, Asia Pacific Section for integration into the IMOโs technical cooperation plan. 3. Plan, coordinate in conjunction with the Principal Programme Assistant/support staff and ensure the delivery and implementation of IMOโs technical cooperation activities in the region under the direct supervision of the Head, Asia Pacific Section. 4. Cooperate in capacity building programmes to help achieve national/ regional execution of projects in the maritime sector. 5. Promote IMOโs technical competence, experience and comparative advantage during the formulation of country-specific United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (Cooperation Framework) through active participation in the United Nations Country Teams' (UNCT) activities with a view to aligning the delivery of the IMOโs technical cooperation programme with relevant programmes in collaboration with United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in Suva, Fiji. 6. Assist in resource mobilization and regional partnerships by identifying potential donors and funding sources at bilateral and multilateral levels. 7. Promote IMOโs for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and its alignment with national policies and strategies taking into account cross-cutting issues, UNCTโs work and the work of the UN Cooperation Framework, as may be appropriate. 8. Identify and establish good working relationships with key organizations and individuals in the region that deal with IMO and other maritime matters. 9. Represent the Organization as directed, at national, regional and international meetings and conferences, to advise on relevant aspects of the work of IMO and of IMOโs technical cooperation programme. 10. Provide information for inclusion in documents on matters related to technical cooperation for presentation to the Assembly, Council, Technical Cooperation Committee, Economic Commissions, donor meetings, etc. 11. Report on a regular basis to the Head, Asia Pacific Section, including submission of quarterly and annual progress reports on their due dates; and,12. Undertake any other tasks assigned either by the Senior Deputy Director, Subdivision for Maritime Development and/or Director TCID

ExperienceMinimum of seven yearsโ progressively responsible professional experience in designing, budgeting, and implementing programmes and activities related to maritime safety, security, environment, facilitation of maritime traffic, or maritime legal matters is essential. Experience in participating in international/regional meetings and preparing of context papers for submission to international/regional meetings is essential. Experience working in maritime administration or international /regional organizations would be an asset
EducationAdvanced university degree in maritime affairs, maritime law, maritime safety, maritime security, marine environment protection, facilitation of maritime traffic, maritime shipping or equivalent maritime studies from a recognized university or a maritime training provider is essential
Language SkillsProficiency in English (written and oral) is essential. Proficiency in another official language would be an asset. Excellent drafting, presentation and communication skills is required
