The position is located in the External Relations, Strategy, Knowledge and Innovation Division (ERSKI) of UN-Habitat in Nairobi. Under the Director of the External Relations, Strategy, Knowledge and Innovation Division, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: Responsibilitiesโข Takes the lead in strategy, planning, development and implementation of large, complex events (e.g. global promotional initiatives, public information programmes for a region, broad-reaching subject specific issues, etc.); where appropriate, works with departments, funds and agencies to develop ways to implement events system-wide and to incorporate the outreach message and themes into all relevant events and products. โข Identifies resources and seeks funding and other assistance for major events. โข Provides advice and expertise to managers, senior officers and other staff on a range of public affairs issues, methods, and approaches; anticipates and resolves planning/implementation issues/problems. โข Develop strategic partnerships with key constituencies to elicit support for and maximize impact of planning objectives; serve as a /principal liaison on event management to media organizations, governmental bodies, national groups, private sector organizations, educational organizations, international organizations, etc. โข Prepares or oversees preparation and implementation of a diverse range of event management products in support of major campaign initiatives. โข Drafts complex outreach material for events and edits drafts prepared by junior officers. โข Evaluates results and impact of events, reports on developments, trends and attitudes regarding the UN. โข Represents the institution in meetings and conferences; fulfills engagements and makes presentations to groups on UN activities and advocate issues of concern; organizes United Nations coverage, organizes seminars, lectures, conferences, public events on major issues and events concerning the organization. โข Build information networks; plans and oversees maintenance of publicly accessible information materials on the events; plans and develop outreach activities. โข Manages events programme; produces materials for print/electronic/voice/visual outreach. โข Assists is the day-to-day operation of the unit to include participating in coordination of substantive and administrative activities of the unit, interpreting and disseminating policy, providing procedural advice, improving digital reporting and event management systems, handling operational and administrative queries, preparing budget submissions, establishing and/or coordinating training programmes and monitoring and evaluating results. โข May coordinate and direct a team of staff and/or mentor and supervise the work of junior officers on specific projects. โข Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in conceptualizing, designing, managing and implementing of major international events is required. A minimum of seven (7) years of experience working with intergovernmental bodies is required. Experience in managing digital systems for events and outreach is required. Experience in leading a multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary team is required. Experience in handling systems with sensitive and confidential information is desirable.
