Work LocationNairobi Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBACKGROUND The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-HABITAT, is the United Nations agency for Human Settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. Through its Regional Office for Africa (ROAf), located in Nairobi, Kenya, UN-Habitat has been supporting African governments to take early action to position themselves for predominately urban populations to achieve sustainable urbanization and the right to adequate housing for all, within the framework of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. Since 1998, the UN-Habitat has implemented several projects in the East and of Africa. Key areas of partnership include: Capacity Building for Sustainable Urban Development, Implementation of the Habitat Agenda, Integrating Local Development Planning and Slum Upgrading in Urban Policy, Cities without Slums, Water for African Cities Programmes, Promoting Sustainable Transport Solutions for East Africa, Support to the improvement of Public Spaces, Support in rehabilitation of Solid waste dump sites in a number of cities, Support in development of regional plans. This post is located within the East and Horn of Africa Sub Regional Programmes, Regional Office for Africa The \"Harnessing Property Rights: Building Resilience of Local Government and Women and Youth Informal Traders in Greater Busia Metro\" project aims to strengthen evidence-based planning and tenure reforms in the crossborder Greater Busia Metro (GBM), spanning Busia County, Kenya, and Busia, Uganda. Informal women and youth traders (IWYTs) are critical to the local economy but face challenges such as insecure land tenure and limited access to formal trading spaces. RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direct supervision of the Human Settlements Officer/Project Manager the Individual Contractor will be responsible for the following: โข Provide general support to the standard administrative activities and processes under the Projects that require application of rules and procedures. โข Provide logistical support for travel arrangements, including accommodation bookings, flight bookings, car hire, and related coordination. โข Support the organization of meetings, trainings, and conferences, including liaising with vendors, obtaining quotations, booking venues, and reconciling related documentation. โข Support with the preparation of project related meetings, in areas such as; drafting agenda, notification of participants, drafting minutes, preparations of slides and other written materials, monitoring follow ups. โข Support in updating and monitoring of various trackers e.g., procurement, travel, recruitment and cash advance. โข Provide assistance in the clearance and approval of legal documents such as Agreements of Cooperation applicable in the implementation of the project activities. โข Assist with the updating of a knowledge management repository tool on SharePoint that will be used to store all relevant project documents. โข Maintain orderly records and files on on-going projects and project/programme. โข Any other related tasks assigned. Qualifications/special skillsA high school diploma is required. A certificate or university degree (Bachelorโs or equivalent) in Business Management, Administration, Information Technology, Development Studies, or a related field is desirable. One year experience in support roles of programme management or related fields is required Experience in administrative support, coordinating events, monitoring processes and knowledge management is desired.
