Overview

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity at the heart of an ambitious fusion energy project? Join our Assembly and Commissioning Support Division (ACSD) within the Engineering Service Department (ESD) as a Project Engineer.

As a Project Engineer, your goals include:

Providing project engineering expertise throughout the design, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, and handover of the assigned scope. Ensuring deliverables are produced within a quality-assured environment that requires rigor and a systematic way of working. Developing, under the leadership of your Line manager, your skills and experience for the benefit of the Project.

The ESD provides the required skilled engineering resources or services, which are necessary for the successful completion of the ITER Project.

The ACSD Division provides technical support to the ITER project in the assembly of the machine and the plant systems, site coordination and in-field engineering support to installation activities,

component and system commissioning and operation of the systems once the commissioning is complete. Being a member of the ACSD Division, you will have the opportunity to share and develop your expertise with other colleagues working in the same discipline in different ITER units.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

Manages, is accountable and acts as key reference for the scope of activity. Leads and implements actions required to resolve technical and engineering issues, ensuring relevant design standards and codes are followed to high-quality levels for the assigned scope. Manages the assembly and installation sequence with special view to the required assembly tools, ensures configuration, interface and quality management for construction activities and develops commissioning plans for the assigned scope. Puts safety at the heart of all actions as a priority and contributes to the establishment of a nuclear safety culture. Ensures that necessary documentation, technical activities, procurement and contract management are executed in line with budget and schedule requirements. Executes assigned contracts, prepares briefs, scopes of work and input into bid proposals.

Additional Responsibilities:

Manages quality issues and technical changes all along the project lifecycle, ensuring effective support to the relevant technical units. Liaises with and provides guidance as required with technical stakeholders in relevant matters, reporting progress to management and follows-up on the resolution of the field engineering changes and installation non-conformances. Ensures that lessons learned and engineering solutions are well propagated within the team and implemented to mitigate future issues.

Experience & Competencies

Essential:

Extensive experience in leading project engineering activities, ideally with an industrial background and /or in the field of fusion, nuclear or science plant facilities. Mechanical Engineering: Knowledge, capability and practices involving the design, development and testing of systems, associated with mechanical equipment and facilities structures. Mechanical Structuresโ€™ Calculations: Reviewing complex stress analyses or structural integrity assessments on mechanical components e.g. tools. Assembly Tooling: Defining, selecting, manufacturing, using, or maintaining complex assembly tools for the assembly or disassembly of mechanical and structural components, including related mock-up testing, training and qualification. Project and Scope Management: Defining, controlling, and managing the work scope of a project or activity, including the identification and management of changes. This includes scope definition and breakdown of scope into WBS, work packages, deliverables Continuous Improvement: proposing changes to processes and systems to enhance efficiency, quality, and productivity over time. Quality Management Systems (QMS): apply the applicable procedures related to your field of activity.

Desirable:

Software/software development knowledge used in the control & operations of interlinked complex tools within a construction environment. Nuclear Engineering: Applying nuclear principles to engineering activities such as design, analysis, and operation of systems and processes involving large components and structures. Organizational Savvy: maneuvering comfortably through complex policy, process, and people related organizational dynamics. Optimizes Work Processes: knowing or identifying the most effective and efficient processes to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Essential:

Masterโ€™s degree or equivalent in an Engineering field or other relevant discipline.

Desirable:

Certifications such as project management etc. The required education degree(s) may be substituted by extensive professional experience involving similar work responsibilities and/or additional training certificates in relevant domains.
