ContextThis position is located in the Programme Office Bangladesh (POBGD) within the Regional Office for South Asia (ROSA) with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The position is part of “The Preventing and Addressing Trafficking in Human Beings and Smuggling of Migrants in South Asia”, a three-year (2024-2027) initiative funded by the European Union (EU) and delivered by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). It is being implemented in five countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, with cross-cutting regional challenges examined in India. It offers support to its participating countries to develop and implement comprehensive national counter-trafficking and counter-smuggling responses and to strengthen their capacities to efficiently prevent and address these issues and the inter-linkages between them, including at transnational level, with full respect for human rights. This position will support the work of Project in Bangladesh, particularly focusing on the national context.

Task DescriptionWithin the delegated authority and under the supervision of Project Coordinator or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Specialist will: • Support implementation of the Bangladesh activities and the country workplan, by identifying implementation opportunities, liaising with stakeholders and supporting the organization of meetings and events; • Support the monitoring of project activities and ensure that the project achieves its stated goals in the country workplan and all deadlines are met • Draft and contribute to a variety of written outputs, including concept notes, communication materials, analytical papers, briefing notes, and official correspondence. • Support with targeted desk research to support the development of technical materials, presentations, and strategic documents. • Collate inputs from stakeholders and partners to prepare comprehensive periodic project progress reports for internal and external audiences. • Support with administrative and logistical support for project events, including meetings, workshops, and conferences. • Assist in monitoring project expenditures against the approved budget, supporting the preparation of financial reports. • Support procurement processes for goods and services by drafting terms of reference (TORs), liaising with vendors, and ensuring compliance with organizational rules. • Go on duty travel to to assist in project implementation, as required; • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor Results/expected outputs: • As an active UNODC team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to UNODC and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: • Support provided to the Bangladesh Country workplan proactively and in a timely manner; • Significant improvement of quality in UNODC’s service delivery • Significant improvement of monitoring TIP and SOM developments and trends in the region. • Efficient utilization of resources. Efficient liaison with internal and external colleagues and stakeholders; • Contribution to Programme implementation in a timely and proactive manner. • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed

Living conditions and remarksDhaka is located in central Bangladesh along the Buriganga River. Not only is it the capital city, but it is also the largest in the country. It is the centre of political, cultural, and economic life in Bangladesh. The official language is Bengali, while English is the working language of UN Agencies. In recent decades, Dhaka has seen the modernization of services, communications, and public works. The city is attracting large foreign investments and greater volumes of commerce and trade. It is also experiencing an increasing influx of people from across the nation; this has reportedly made Dhaka one of the fastest-growing cities in the world. Good English-speaking medical, dental services, and educational centres are available for internationals. Dhaka is connected to other cities by rail, road, and by air and internationals can move easily from one city to another. Dhaka has venerable green spaces, including many gardens and parks, historical places, and nice restaurants. The weather is tropical - hot and very humid during the summer monsoon season (April-September) and drier and cooler in the winter (October-March).
