Numerous additional intergovernmental instruments on migratory species conservation have been adopted under the broad umbrella of CMS which are supported by the CMS Secretariat. The CMS Secretariat also provides the Secretariat for the Agreement on the Conservation of Small Cetaceans of the Baltic, North East Atlantic, Irish and North Seas (ASCOBANS). In addition, two regional agreements on migratory species adopted under CMS have their own Secretariats which are co-located with the CMS Secretariat in Bonn - the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) and the Agreement on the Conservation of European Populations of Bats(EUROBATS). The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system's designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. In the present context, UNEP provides the administrative functions for the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA), the Agreement on the Conservation of Small Cetaceans of the Baltic, Northeast Atlantic, Irish and North Seas (ASCOBANS) and the Agreement on the Conservation of European Populations of Bats (EUROBATS) Secretariats. The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is an intergovernmental treaty, under the aegis of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), concerned with the conservation of wildlife and habitats on a global scale. The CMSOfficeโ€“ Abu Dhabi coordinates the implementation of two CMS instruments:- The Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation and Management of Dugongs and their Habitats throughout their Range (Dugong MOU); and- The Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Birds of Prey in Africa and Eurasia (Raptors MOU). The Office also supports broader international initiatives, including the 2030 Seagrass Breakthrough, which aims to accelerate global efforts to conserve and restore seagrass ecosystems that are critical for biodiversity, climate, and community resilience. The internship provides hands-on experience in international environmental cooperation, communication, and partnership development. The selected intern will support the CMS Officeโ€“ Abu Dhabi in strengthening its outreach, partnership engagement, and resource mobilization efforts under the Dugong and Raptors MOUs and related global initiatives. Under the supervision of the executive coordinator and/or the Programme Management Officers, the intern will assist in the following areas: A. Communication โ€ข Support the preparation of communication materials such as news stories, website updates, newsletters, and social media posts highlighting the Office's activities. โ€ข Assist with the design and dissemination of outreach and visibility materials for the Dugong MOU,Raptors MOU, and 2030 Seagrass Breakthrough. โ€ข Help organize communication events and campaigns to raise awareness of CMS Abu Dhabi's work and achievements. โ€ข Contribute to maintaining and updating the CMS Abu Dhabi website and SharePoint content. B. Partnerships โ€ข Support mapping and maintaining a database of partners and stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, research institutions, and private sector entities. โ€ข Assist in drafting briefs, background notes, and summaries on existing and potential partnerships. โ€ข Help prepare materials and presentations for meetings with partners and donors. โ€ข Support documentation and follow-up of partnership meetings, including taking minutes and archiving records. C. Resource Mobilization โ€ข Assist in researching potential donors and funding opportunities relevant to the Office's work. โ€ข Support the preparation of simple funding overviews, donor profiles, and progress summaries. โ€ข Contribute to tracking and organizing information on funding pipelines, agreements, and contributions. โ€ข Help organize donor-related events, briefings, and outreach activities. D. Other Ad Hoc Tasks as requested by the Supervisor Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (Minimum Bachelorยดs level or equivalent), or c) Have graduated with a university degree. Candidates with the following areas of study will be given preference: communication, journalism, public relations, marketing, business administration, development studies, international relations, environmental policy, sustainable development or a related field. Environmental backgrounds (e.g., biology, ecology, environmental science) are also welcome as a complementary asset, particularly for applicants interested in wildlife conservation.
